For anyone wondering this is the IDENTICAL heater that is used in our Hurricane's.  I installed one in mine and it is a great unit.

General Information / Shout out to the Hurricane boys...
December 13, 2022, 10:52:02 PM
I just want to put a thank you out to the Hurricane boys for continuing to stand by their product in providing customer service and continued support as the company goes through this transition time.  Some know, I've been working through some significant issues with my car which the guys at Hurricane continue to assist me with and have worked to resolve in a fair manner.
My car is currently in for paint and I am looking forward to having it on the road this summer with all the bugs worked out.  I'll update with pictures once I get them from the paint shop.

Build Pictures / Re: HM-2040 Build

I recommend a switch under the dash that supplies power to the in-tank fuel pump so you can turn off the fuel pump if the car is parked.  Effective disabling device for anti-theft.  My car is EFI so I installed a relay in the trunk for the fuel pump and made a switch in front of the steering column that shuts off power to that circuit.  Works slick.  I also use a battery switch (big red switch) on the back of the cockpit that runs wiring through it for the park/neutral safety switch.  Both of these are disabling devices for anti-theft.

Mike!  She's an absolutely beautiful beast!  Congratulations on being finished.  I am not far behind.  I'm in for paint right now-I'll have finished pics by spring (hopefully).  Enjoy driving that thing.  The fact you painted it yourself is truly impressive and what a fine job you did!

General Information / Re: Hood Clearance
October 27, 2022, 05:21:44 PM
I was unable to fit mine without the hood scoop.  I have a Smeding 427W with a Victor Jr. intake manifold in my car.  It sits high of the hood by about an inch.

I guess I looked everywhere except my own build thread🤣.  Thanks for pointing that out!

General Information / Fuel tank fitting sizes...
November 18, 2021, 04:49:06 PM
I have looked all over and can't seem to locate the fitting sizes for the aluminum fuel tank.  There are two on the front top and one larger one on the front bottom.  Does anyone know off-hand what size fittings go in those holes?

General Information / Re: Header to footbox clearance
October 11, 2021, 10:42:35 PM
I had the same problem with mine. I took a grinder and took off about 1/8 inch of the flange.  I took off just enough so the header flange cleared the foot box.

General Information / EFI Set up
October 09, 2021, 02:27:11 PM
So I am considering replacing my carburetor on my cobra with a Sniper EFI system.
Has anyone installed one of these in the cobra and if so how did you handle an in tank pump?
There is a spot on the tank for a return line but it is not plumbed to the bottom of the tank so there's a major risk for vapor issues if I just plug into that line and let the return fuel freefall into the tank.
When installing an in tank pump do you just drill another hole in the top of the gas tank and install the fuel pump there? What do you do with the fuel level sending unit?

I stayed away from the Remflex as they pushed the headers out far enough to concern me with spacing between the header pipes and footboxes.  I went with standard Felpro gaskets.  Headers aren't that hard to seal properly so a regular gasket should work fine.

Hey guys!  I am wondering what kind of products/techniques you used to seal the gaps between the footbox and the body, especially on the drivers side which is about an 1/2-3/4 inch.  Also, what did you use under the doors between the cockpit tub and the body and along the inside of the cockpit tub and door latch area?  My kit did not come with any thing for this area so I am wondering what we are supposed to do to properly seal this area off?

General Information / Re: Firewall aluminum
September 16, 2021, 11:00:30 PM
Sorry to be late to the party on this one.  I actually used all the pieces.  I bent the top of the inner trans tunnel pieces to about a 30 degree angle from vertical so they laid back and fit the space better.  I had Jason cut some custom pieces with a slight roll in them to fit from the firewall to the top of the foot boxes.  If you call Hurricane and ask Jason about them he will likely remember it and be able to reproduce them.
I used WD-40 and scotchbrite on all my aluminum to get that brushed look.  I bet I have 20 hours into sanding...

General Information / Re: Vibration...
August 10, 2021, 11:15:14 PM
Thanks for the comments guys.  I had the suspension and alignment as well as the drive shaft angles set up today on HM-2016.  The driveline angles were dead on...thankfully.  Alignment was WAY off.  Turns out the vibration was coming from the parking brake that was hanging up one wheel.  After everything was set up the car handled COMPLETELY different.  I could not believe what a difference it made.

Dan...I'm with you on hard bolting the sidepipes.  It doesn't seem logical.  Who did the exhaust hanger work for you?
