I decided to do most of the bodywork prior to taking the body off for the firsts time, thus I put the door handles and hood bumpers on so I can gap the panels.

Look'in good. Getting the initial body work done first is a smart move. I wish I would have had the foresight to do that with mine.  Keep the pics coming.

I HIGHLY recommend that you DO NOT do much body work, especially fitting the panels, prior to removing the body or you will run into alot of problems.

Yes, please let us know. It might save someone some trouble down the road. I did my body work late in the build, but I remember Tom doing his first thing. I don't think he ran into any major problems, at least not that I remember.

Thanks,
Mike

Here's a link to Tom's problem http://forum.hurricane-motorsports.com/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1159997656

The problems I've found are different than his.

Hey guys,

Been without regular Internet for a while so I haven't caught up on the board.  But... in seeing the above post, yes, I had some problems.  They were only because I didn't check things out enough before I started though.  My upper frame wasn't seated tightly to the main frame when it left HMS.  One side was down tight, but the other was sitting up on the tub so it was about 1/4" high.  Also, when I placed the trunk pan into place, it "supported" the rear of the body a bit.  I did all my preliminary fitting with the top frame out of alignment and without the trunk pan in place.  Then when I reassembled everything, nothing lined up.  I was able to get everything very close, but not perfect as I had it all originally.  As the car sits  in primer several states away I'm still contemplating whether I want to get back into it and re-perfect all my gaps, or just live with it.

If I had it to do again I'd assemble EVERYTHING myself and double-triple-check it all before ever starting.  Now I just need to decide if I want to go through it all again or put up with the miniscule gap issues that I created.  Don't get me wrong.  Things are much better than 99% of the Cobras I see in shows.  But not perfect.

That helps a lot. It sounds like the most important thing to remember is that, if you do the body work first, make sure everything is assembled and bolted in place just like it will be at final assembly. Then double check everything as Tom stated. Hopefully, this will help keep someone from getting in trouble.

Thanks again,
Mike

Seems like it would be worth it for someone (with lottsa time) to put together a guide book for Hurricane builders...you know, all those little tips and tricks guys work out when building, short cuts that make things easier, how to organize parts so things go quicker, jigs or frames you make to hold things in place...could just start a thread on tips and tricks but no comments, those could be done by pm's or the thread will get out of hand and you won't find anything.

I wouldn't have thought to check if it was already in place either....
