HM-2026 Build Log - from zero to Cobra
« on: October 29, 2022, 03:32:16 PM »
Hello Hurricane family! So great to finally be introducing ourselves here and interacting with you all. You all are a fantastic bunch of humans and I couldn’t be more appreciative of all you post about your builds. Up to the last month or so, I’d read every single page of every single build of the Gen2 models, so thank you! It’s all been sooo incredibly helpful!

HM-2026 build started with a conversation at the dinner table with my husband, Ty, and I’s younger son, Mason, who at the time was a junior in high school. This was to be the perfect summer quarantine and senior year family project. We ordered HM2026 June 1, 2020 and then  spent the summer getting the garage ready and waiting. And waiting. And waiting. I think you all know the drill. Finally, in September (which looking back now, probably wasn’t as long as some of you have had to wait - but felt like forever at the time) Ty and I flew to Des Moines, picked up a U-Haul and drove to Hurricane Motorsports the next day. Toured the facility, loaded all our boxes and goodies and drove back home to Colorado Springs, CO that day. And the adventure began. We had NO IDEA what we were in for or what lay ahead of us, but ignorance really can be bliss, and I couldn’t be happier for the adventure we’ve had.

I ordered some items from Paul’s Period Correct page back in June 2021 and he jokingly encouraged us to start our build thread then, “before the bonding project explodes”, and he was right 😆, it did on more than one occasion. But God is good and has continued to bring us all back together to the car, in some form or fashion. Mason is now away at college at Colorado School of Mines, so really only works on the build a little during his breaks. Ty is the sounding board for all my crazy ideas of how to get things done and muscles for making the things happen that I just can’t make happen myself. We lovingly refer to him as the HAMMER. For me, this build has become my complete obsession and such a source of joy. HA! I never would have guessed but I do wonder if after it’s all said and done…will I still lay in bed and think of all the things I need to do on the car the next day? Does that ever end? 😊 That remains to be seen…enough about us. Onto the build.

2008 Bob Worley (TX)
2018 Russ Crouch (NE) & wife
2023 Paul Proefrock (2nd build, MO)

2032 Jim Scroggin (TX)
2034 Bruce Nelson (TX)

Pictures are from our trip to Hurricane Motorsports to pick up our build in September 2020, Alec and crew were amazing, and Mason’s excitement about the car when we got home.

Last week we put the body on HM-2026 for the final time and sent it out for the first alignment. Such a rush!! My plan with this build thread is to share what we have done along the way, hopefully leaving something useful for the handful following. We are hopeful someone will pick up the Hurricane brand and continue it down the road because it’s really an amazing experience.

Was wondering when you were going to get this first post out of the way...Looks like your pickup was just after I visited Hurricane in Aug of 2020, we had to wait 8 months for ours to be ready for delivery. Glad you are enjoying it so far.
