Has anyone done gas struts as opposed to the prop rod for hood support? If so, can you share P/N's and install info?

Not sure if someone has here...but wouldn't be that difficult, two struts mounted on each side forward on body in hood opening and midway back or little more on hood should work. It's how we had struts mounted to engine hatches on Donzi Classics. Get some hardware and a strut like this https://www.amazon.com/JR-Products-GSNI-5300-40-Gas-Spring/dp/B002UC6WT4 should get you started.

Bruce, I think the FFR complete kits come with gas struts, that or a lot of FF guys put them on. A while back i read that they can cause stress on the fiberglass and some guys noticed over time the hood actually getting ever so slightly deformed the pressure of the struts. I can't fully remember if this was in regard to the trunk lid or hood.

yea I read that on their forum. But I'll tell you. I built one of their 35 Hot Rod trucks and the hood was a POS. I had to do tons of reinforcing work just so it would not curl up in the sun on a hot day. I ended up throwing it in the trash and running without hood. This Hurricane hood seems pretty darn stout.

Wow that's pretty sad. I figured the hurricane fiberglass was of better quality based on reading here, but since I don't have any experience with either so far that's the best I could offer.
Keep us posted, I'm sure a lot of guys will follow your lead, myself included maybe.

Got it figured :)  Bought some 45lb struts from Amazon for about $15.00. Work great!

About what I pictured, by the looks of it, it works well.
