I'm am going to be routing my main and return lines this next week and I am wondering if anyone has some pictures of how they routed their fuel lines, especially in the Gen 2 chassi?  I was provided adel clamps to secure the hard lines to the frame and I am wondering if anyone has used riv-nuts instead of the #10 screw to secure these to the chassi or are the screws good enough?  Thanks in advance guys.

Sorry, no pictures but some info:

  • I ran my lines down the drivers side, inside the 2 x 4 frame tube, one low and the other (return) high
  • I used Kugel clamps rather than the rubber isolated ones supplied. They are a thicker, stainless steel clamp that hard clamps the line to the frame
[li]I drilled and tapped the frame for 10-24 threads and then screwed the clamps on with those. Easy to do while the car is still dis-assembled. Gets logarithmic more difficult with the body and tub on  :(

A tip: while fitting the lines, make sure you can get to the necessary fittings to remove the tank while the trunk tub and body tub is in place. Even if you think you've covered everything, set them in place and try it - it will make serviceability a whole lot better. Don't ask how I know.

I looked at those Kugel clamps...those are really nice.  I think I am going to go that route as well.  I also like the idea of drilled and tapped holes in the frame.  Throw a little loc-tite on them and they are good to go.  Did you flare your ends prior to installation in the frame or did you wait until final connection to flare the fuel line ends?

I built and connected the fuel lines up to the point of the flex hose to the motor and then, after everything lined up as it should, then I clamped it down. If you clamp it and then try to flare, you'll never get everything to line up.

I used SS braided -6 AN lines stem to stern with adel clamps. I ran the line (no return line) inside the driver's side frame rail as Paul did.

Aaron, I too routed my on the inside of the driver side frame rail.

on the business end (front), I left enough, I hope to go to the mechanical fuel pump with Aeroquip socketless hose on AN barbed fittings.

Bobby, Nice looking install, those pictures help a lot.  As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.  Another question for you, it looks like the terminal end of your fuel line (engine end) is not flared (or maybe I can't see it).  Is that something where you will remove the fuel line, flare it and reinstall it?  I am just plain dumb regarding the process for this.  My concern is not getting the ends of the fuel line in the correct location or at the correct length before flaring them.  So, I'm assuming that I just route the lines for now and later when the engine is installed, remove them, cut to permanent length and flare the ends appropriately?

Aaron, I didn't flare the 1/2" aluminum fuel lines.  I used these AN adapters with a compression fit:

I plan on cutting and installing the adapter right in the car once I get the engine in.  This are for low pressure, if you are using fuel injection, you may want to look at something else.

Aaron, before you think everyone did the same. I ran mine down the inside of the passenger side rail. I'm running an electric FP mounted in the boot (similar to originals) one piece down the rail up and 90 over at the fire wall for flex line to the carb log. Also on the pass side rail is the battery Ground wire going forward to the engine. Hot wire is in a conduit in the top corner of the tunnel and goes by my disconnect before the solenoid.

All my pictures are here for the looking if you like:  http://s1060.photobucket.com/user/TMark390/library/

Thanks for all the pictures guys.  I really appreciate it.  Bob I was unaware of that type of compression fitting.  That is a beautiful piece and takes me back to my aviation days...of course due to it being an AN fitting.  I am using a carb'd set up on my 427 so it should only need a single line.  Are you using that AN compression fitting at the tank and at the fuel pump line?

Aaron,  I forgot I had at one time started a build thread here!  I guess I need to update it more.  In this post you can see how I used the compression fit and the Aeroquip socketless hose on the fuel tank end:
