Hurricane Factory Car

Many of you have inquired about all the new features and improvements being made to the Hurricane and I wanted to update you on the progress of the factory car.  Here is a picture of the frame painted gloss black with the front and rear suspension and steering rack installed.  I have also included a picture highlighting the newly developed floor mounted pedals which are significant improvement along with the angled flat steel foot box providing more foot room.

There are a number of other new features and improvements that will be highlighted during the build process.  The modifications have taken longer than anticipated to finalize and implement but we are now into the production phase and things will be moving along quickly.  Stay tuned.

You guys are definitely rasing the bar.

By lowering the master cylinders they are going to be a bit farther away from the headers, I really like it.

I have seen this thing up close and it is amazing. I don't think there is anyway that the masters could hit the ground even on a really big bump. We have talk alot about support bars here and there but at some point you just have to start building. I can't wait to see more pictures.

Engine and trans to be mounted and headers will be built next.  Making some progress.

To address a previous comment, the master cylinders sit just a little higher than the oil pan and bellhousing.  So those would bottom out before the master cylinders would.

The body is covered in the background, painted and ready to mount.  Will be unveiled very soon.

Glad to see things moving right along...makes me want to get back out in the garage and work, work, work.....
I'm still a bit concerned about a shear point between the arrows though...any thoughts ?

I love the floor mounted pedals. I also notice a change in the rear cowl support. Don't tell me you're gonna lose that artfully bent piece of 1x1 - you know, the one that was hand tooled by a blacksmith! ;D
BTW, have you found a new source for sidepipes other than Shell Valley/International Wholesale?  I'm in the market for new side pipes.

There is no reason for concern with the shear points. It is gusseted and the material is very thick.

The new pipes are no longer slipfit. That was a pleasant change and they do have new sidepipes in stock. I had mine built with a 3 inch ID.

Dean, any idea how the new crew is producing headers? The original headers were pretty low-tech.  Plus, for those of use running aluminum, oval port heads, it was a pretty crude set-up.  I imagine a number of us will be looking for replacements at some point.

Dan, I think they are being made the same way. I saw the pictures of the new headers before they were fully welded and they looked ok. They use a 3/8's flange and pretty much weld them up. What problems have you experienced? As far as oval ports, I would think it would be as simple as using a different flange.

The build of HM-2001 continues to move along and the here some pictures of the progress including the headers being fit.  Notice they have been changed to flange fit to provide a nice tight seal.  Another improvement to the car with plenty more to come.  I will keep the pictures coming.
