Here is a picture of Ryan's.  Check out his build site, it's amazing.

OK, I'll bite...

What's a rear axle breather, why does the car need one, and if it's necessary, why isn't it included in the kit?

Thanks,

It vents the axle housing to atmosphere and prevents a pressure build up as the axle fluid expands as it gets warm thereby preventing it from blowing oil past the seals. I've never seen a housing that didn't have one and yes, the kit comes with one. The only reason you would need one like Ryan's above is if you were going to submerge the housing in water. Is that what you were thinking Ryan?  ;D

LOL,  Yeah its a little over kill, I just thought I'd run it where it there as opposed to just the nipple or the filter on the nipple.  You know, in case I got caught driving through a Hurricane and the off chance a drop or two (god forbid) got somehow through the filter and into the axle.   ;) ;)

Definately overkill,  The vent comes with the kit and was already installed on mine, however the filter did not.  I think it's a good idea to atleast put a filter on it.

Jim,
What vent came with yours?  My axle only had a barb sticking out of the axle.

Mine came with the barb and the vent assembly in the box from John's Industries. I believe it was in the box with the axle flange bolts.

Ahhh... See I just had the axle vent tube.  Just the Brass Nipple part, that's it.  I see why you didn't have to do anything now.  Makes sense and I agree, I'd stick with that as well.

Ryan,

At least you won't have to worry about cruisin' during the next flood.  ;D Like my other toys, the Cobra won't come out unless the forecast is sunny.
