Dan,

Yes that is me at the strip... the front tires are 245-60R-15 and the rears are 295-50R-15.

Sid,
What size are your rims?  Backspacing?  It's hard to get a good view from the drag strip pic, but they seem to have a nice deep dish look.

I'm really torn between old school 15" rims vs modern 17" or 18".  As you know, period correctness is not a priority for me, so it's just a question of preference  ;)

Thanks again,
Doug

Doug,

Front 15x8

chris B

that is exactly what i bought  in 17s
17 because you have more choices in rubber than with 15s
and 17 in tires are generaly a more perfrmance tire
i went for performance over priod correctness. 8-)

Hi Sid,
Was hoping by now you would have some good news on a sale..still running the car?   I'm so close to ordering right now, sent a list to Mike this week and asked for a quotation so its serious.  Looks like I will be joining the SBC crew as there isn't any one here I would trust to work with me or work on a Ford and I'm up to snuff on Motors.  A SBC can be fiddled with a bunch of places here.  So...I was Looking at a MAS Racing Performance crate motor with 390 hp.  Ever heard of one of these being used?  Price seems good.
I agree whole heartedly with what has been said regarding resale value from reading a lot of post on CC over the past year or so.  If you are in for the long term and not looking for a re-sale in the next several years, go for it.  I'm into it for a long time, my one and only chance and over here, if doesn't say Ford or Chevy in big letters on the Valve Covers, no one would know what it was.  We have even considered a Lexus V-8 which is a light weight motor with a heap of potential but Hurricane isn't set up to provide the correct mounts at this time (no one has ever built one)  For a bit of a difference, Mike and crew are prepared to put together a Right hand Drive  street roadster kit for me...we drive on the wrong side of the road here so it will be unique for sure.
If you get a donor SBC motor that isn't built up but is reliable, you can alway save your money and down the road, put in a Ford, though it would be a bit of work.

Ken,

It is good to hear from you, and it is also good to hear that you are close ordering a car you will love it, i found it easy to put together and what little problems i had were quickly solved.
I have not heard of MAS engine I am sure you have checked them out. If you lived closer i could have helped you with one (SBC or BBC).
Yes i still have my car it is covered up waiting for warmer weather.

Keep in touch,

Sid

Fuzzy

Sid,
Guess you better get it out and enjoy it then assuming spring comes to the Mid-West this year.  The family still racing?
I've been looking at the Hurricane wheels as I don't want to get something that won't fit.  What brand of tires are you running, I might have to have them sent with the kit as I am having trouble finding tires that big.  I could only find Kumho KL-11's so far in the 255/60/15 and 295/50/15.
Didn't you build your own motor?  I figured I would buy complete, motor and trans and save trying to get parts from long distance.  I've got a nice Lexus V-8 lined up but looks like a heap of trouble with the wiring mating to a Hurricane wiring system.

Doug,
there is a guy in the UK Cobra club that has a Hemi in his fire engine red Cobra, needless to say it looks awesome and there aren't a whole lot of folks that bad mouth him.  If you go with the SBC, we can swap stories about how they fit in our cars and what comments we get.  Plus we can badger Sid for help.... :)

Ken,
I think it is around 15degrees F with a 30 MPH wind MAN IS IT COLD. I have BF Goodrich TA on mine, if were you I would try to get all i could in the crate from Hurricane to save shipping cost.
Is MAS here in the US?
What trans will your be going with?

I have a 350 TH in mine and love it, I did find somthing out i ordered my kit with a 3.50 gear and found with a 3 speed and short tire that it was to much gear so i changed to a 3.00 gear and I LOVE IT 60 MPH is now 2400 rpms compared to 3000 rpms and man did it ever open up the top end. I took the car to the drag strip and it only hurt it 2 tenths in the 1/4 mile in a street car you can't feel that.

Yes i build all my motors, if there is a problem i don't to go far to get my hands around the guy neck  ;D.

Yes, we racing this yr my daughter will be racing her HEMI powered Jeep in the street class and i will be racing my 70 Camaro (496 ci) in Super Spro.

Here is a picture of my Camaro

Plenty cold, now you know why I left Lambertville, Michigan and moved to the tropics...Even when it rains all day, its still 80+.

Glad to hear your daughter is still racing, bit faster than her Jr. I would imagine.  Still got the rail?

Did some more shopping and looking around for tires today, only ones I can find are Toyo 600F6 for the front (255/60/15) and Toyo Proxes S/T's for the rear  (295/50/15).  Also can get Kumho's in the same sizes but they are KL-11's which I think is  a light pickup tire.  Of course, they don't have them in the shop and no photos so time to do some internet checking.  There are some limitations on importing tires to protect local manufacturing so would rather buy here and save trouble.

I was interested in a TH 350, partly since I already have a new Lokar shifter for one but am not real knowlegable on the merits of that over a TH400.  I need a simple one, every thing simple given the quality of labor here on import hot rod stuff.  Rice rockets no problem.  We were going to put a Supra twin turbo in my old roadster but the car was about 5 inches too narrow where the frame rails are... so still looking.    >:(    To narrow for any V-8 or V-6.   :'(  More like a Flintstone flyer.

MAS racing engines are in Wisconsin, they have a website at www.masperformance.com   Either of the two lower end motors (with carbs) would be in my price range.   I also asked them to quote me a price complete with transmission attached and ready to run.  I would prefer the 390 horse with the Vortec Heads as I only get one shot to order.  The others are a bit past my abilities, even this one might be.   Not much fun wrecking it the first time out after waiting so long to get one.  I'm sure there are a million other builders around the nation.  Tried a Chevy dealer about 8 miles from Hurricane and they decided they didn't want to do business with me when I said I was exporting to Indonesia, must be afraid of money laundaring.  Will see what MAS gets back to me this week.

Ken,

The motor looks like a good value for the $$$$$$ carb to pan.
