Why is it so secret?
I'm sure its a great benefit to the owners, please tell me about it???
What is the reasoning to keep it private?
Thanks

IMO, the private forum is to keep the topics focused on build related issues. Public forum can be used to address general topics, which would be of interest to potential owners. Keeping the owner's forum private keeps it uncluttered. Owners see and participate in both the private and public forums, so potential owners can get all their questions answered. I had the same question when I first became interested in Hurricane, but now as a owner (in waiting..) I think this is the better way to go.

I've seen comments on the FFR site suggesting the Hurricane owner forum is relatively weak, implying owners support of one another isn't as robust as within the FFR community. Those comments are based on the activity on Hurricane's public forum only, since that the only thing non-owners can see. For the record, there are over 500 different topic threads in the private forum, with over 6000 posts.

Weak? Not even close.  IMHO, it is VERY strong. Owner support is extremely strong. People making those comments are misinformed and uneducated about our forum.  Yet another reason to keep it to Owners only.  Keeps the rif-raf out.

I feel the public side has enough information and support to make a healthy decision.  The member's only site is the most usefull when you are building the car.

I agree with both comments above - the support for each other on the owners forum is tremendous!!!! I'm constantly amazed at the lengths owners go to help each other out. In addition, even though I didn't build my car, I'm still treated with the same respect that each of them has earned through the build process - a very special group of people!!!!

Sounds great, soon I will be joining you both on the Dark Side soon. Really looking forward to it, feels like Christmas when you were 10 years old!!!!!!

For me, the issue is one of both capability and readiness.

Doug,

I understand your frustration. If you look at some of the other forums that allow anyone to post, I think you'll understand Hurricane's policy. It does keep out the ones that just want to cause trouble. Possibly Hurricane could allow others onto the owners section in a "read only" capacity.
It sounds like with your previous expirience, you'll have no problems building a Hurricane. As far as fabrication goes, the only thing I've had to do is to build a clutch slave cyl. bracket. Due to the varied drive train combinations, they probably couldn't include one for every combination. It is a very simple procedure covered on the "DarkSide" but if you want to spend lots of money, you can always order one from a Cobra parts supplier (Forte). I am adding a front sway bar so that will require a little welding but again, very simple.
If I can answer any questions, feel free to call or e-mail me. I'd be glad to help.

Hey, didn't think of that. Good idea Jim.  A read only access might be the answer.

Doug, I see and understand your dilema.  I think a visit to Lee's Summit will be very beneficial.

I didn't visit there myself because I was comfortable enough with my decision based on conversations with Mike as well as the public forum.

Another thing that helped clinch it for me was visiting Phil in Jacksonville and seeing his car.  He had just fired the beast up for the first time that day.  I was able to see and talk to him about different things I was concerned about and ordered my car soon after.

Good luck with your decision.

If that's the case, I should have been there years ago.

Doug:

I may be speaking a bit out of turn here since I haven't taken possession of my car yet, (HM1066...still waiting, waiting, waiting for paint), but if your question is primarily the level of fabrication skills you need, from what I've seen and heard about Hurricane's kit, there's very little if any to be done, unless you decide to customize some things on your own. It's a very complete, well engineered kit, which is the reason I chose it over a FFR. I visited with about 1/2 dozen FFR builiders and saw both in progress and completed cars, and was turned off by the amount of 'fixing' of things that needed to be done, particularly with the body. The die hard FFR guys will tell you this is part of the 'experience,' but for me, the thought of spending a lot time fixing things for them to fit together would have been too frustrating. I know even the Hurricane kit will require some level of tweaking, any mechanical project does, but it's by far the exception vs. the rule.

Maybe the guys that have already traveled this path and have their cars on the road can chime in to confirm or deny my POV.

Good Luck.

I like the idea of a "read only" status for non owners. I built my FFR long before I knew that forum even exsisted. It would have changed several things I approached in a different manner. Also some options I would have changed when I bought the kit. I see the point of keeping out the trouble makers tho. But for those of us who are interested in seeing the "in's and outs" I think it would benefit far more than hurt in the long run. Every kit will have some issues. Even the CSX cars have their issues.  :D  It would just be nice to have a heads up ahead of time to think out different ways of doing things. For me I'm interested in the street version. And seeing Jason's pics of the undercar exhaust has already given me a few ideas. I don't think anyone can argue the fact the Hurricane is a quality kit. And I've been watching the amazing progress these guys have made in the short time they have been around. And the constant upgrades to the kits. It would just be nice to read far more than is posted on the general forum. I'll second Ryan's site as a fantastic look into the build of the kit. It has shown me quite a bit with some really good build tips. I hope I don't offend anyone here with my "FFR428" login. It's kinda stuck with me over the years on all the forums.  ;D
