I read somewhere on one of these posts that a 427FE will fit without a problem, but the foot box is modified so the big block will fit.

My concern is, the foot box is already pretty narrow, at least Phils was, and there is not much space between the pedals. I would hate to hit the brake when trying to depress the clutch. My 13s are pretty wide.

If I order with 427FE specs, will the pedals and space around/between them be the same? If not, what is the difference. I really want the BB for originality.

BTW- Thinking Keith Craft-427FE crate motor w/ Shelby aluminum block. Whad'ya think?

Well, I can't comment on the big block foot box, I have a small block in mine too. But I do like the KC 427FE engine your thinking of. KC has a great reputation and I don't think you could go wrong with any engine from them.

The FE box definitely has a narrower footbox.  I don't know exactly how much, but I noticed it in my build instructions.  I'd guess that you loose 1.5" to 2".  It's definitely tight.  My shoes are a nice compact 12-D, unlike your big ole' honkin' 13's  ;D ;D ;D  But I don't anticipate any foot-fit problems with mine.  The space difference is where the gas pedal goes.  There's no difference on the clutch side so there's still plenty of room there.

I offten wondered if the Brits had little feet or something! ;D

I'm not sure of the width difference either, mine is set up for small block. Narrow footbox is an issue with most of these kinds of cars. In driving other Cobra replicas, I found it better if I wear my driving shoes. They tend to be narrow and allow for more feel of the pedals.
They just wear out qucikly if you wear them to do much walking in them. They also aren't very comfortable to walk in, so I bring along some other shoes if I'll do much walking.
They also look a little silly with shorts or jeans!

My 11EE's are not a problem in the foot box.

Have you considered using the Pond aluminum side oiler block for your KC FE build?

danc30

I am seriously considering the aluminum upgrade. I think the $5K is worth it.

The upgrade, from a new iron SO block, to a an aluminum block, is only about $1k, and to go with the Shelby center oiler is another $1k on top of that.  If your starting with a used iron block, the upgrade is substantial.  [smiley=shocked.gif]

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind when I finally call KC.

How is the foot/pedal room on yours? Can you take a picture?

Must be x rated!  ;D

They're hosted over at CC,  Maybe on they're on the temporary server.  I may have to reload them.  I bet the hood prop pics are gone too.

Ryan Cassidy

Ok  I could have done with out that now....     ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The room side to side is one item to watch for, but also how you space your pedals front to back as well as how you use your right foot. Heal toe, half and half etc, etc.  I've found that after about 5 miles I was used to the pedal spacing with everyday tennis shoes on.  Just too some time to get the feel for it.

Cheers,
Ryan Cassidy
