General Information / Door Pockets?
September 26, 2007, 10:16:31 AM
Has anyone installed inner door panels and pockets other than the Hurricane supplied ones?  If so, where did you get them and how did they come out?

The Hurricane ones don't appear to replicate the originals very closely.

General Information / Manifold & Hood Clearance
September 18, 2007, 03:34:07 PM
Is anyone running an Edelbrock RPM Air-Gap manifold on a 351 based engine?  If so, is there clearance for a standard 14" round air cleaner below the hood?  I am thinking Street Version here so the hood scoop doesn't count.

Or, is anyone running an FE with the Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold?  If so, how much clearance does that combo have?  (I can figure back from one engine to the other.)

Thanks,

Kevin

General Information / Soft Top
July 23, 2007, 04:47:15 PM
I did a search but didn't come up with anything regarding soft tops.

What are people using for tops, side screens and tonneau covers for their cars?

As a potential purchaser of a Hurricane kit I would like to suggest a change in the forum policy.

As it currently stands, non owners cannot view the owner forum.  This is a serious disadvantage for any potential new owner.

One of the best things about the FFR forum is that anyone can search all the back posts.  If they have a question about a certain part of the build, they can read the owners posts concerning that.  If they want to know how responsive the company is to owner problems, they can read that.  If they want to judge the owners satisfaction level, they can do so.  If they want to see what modifications have been preformed and how they worked out, they can look.  If they want to judge the difficulty of the build, that information is available.

All of this is a major part of deciding that a particular kit is the right one for you.  On this forum, that is not possible.

I can understand that the owners might not want non-owners posting a lot of questions or uneducated opinions on the owners forum, so I am suggesting that the ability to post to the owners forum remain for owners only, but that the forum be made available on a read only basis to everyone.

I know this would be a great help to me in learning the things I need to learn to be comfortable selecting a Hurricane, and I suspect the same is true of other potential owners.

Comments Please?

General Information / What Would You Do Differently?
August 09, 2007, 10:57:29 AM
For those who have built a Hurricane.  If you were going to build another one today, what would you do differently this time and why?  Different options, assembly techniques, etc.?

Thanks,

Kevin

I am curious where people have deviated from the standard kit.

What modifications have you made to your car, and how happy are you with the results?

Thanks,

Kevin

Mike,

So they use a Ford spindle and rotor with a GM caliper on the front?

General Information / Wheel Bolt Circle

Does the Hurricane with an IRS use different bolt circle wheels front and back?

The front end seems to be GM based, which would be a 4 3/4" bolt circle.

Doug,

I think this "Period Correct" stuff gets taken a little too far.

Jim's comment about not being able to get traction is a good point.

I have an article I wrote for the FAQs section of another forum that explains the interrelationship between engine torque, transmission gearing and ring & pinion gearing to maximize acceleration without exceeding the tires limits.

It is probably more information than most people want and it is fairly long, so I won't post it here. (Unless there is significant interest.)   Anyone who would like a copy can send me an e-mail and I will attach it to the reply.  Please put the word "Cobra" somewhere in the subject line so your e-mail doesn't get deleted as spam.

bh,

I am not sure you would be happy with that motor.  250HP is actually enough to make a light car like this fun to drive, but I'm not sure the characteristics of that engine will be suitable.

If you look at the description, you will see the engine makes peak power at 3,800 RPM.  That is a truck engine.  It is intended for someone who is re-powering an old pickup truck.  The driving characteristics will be those of a truck engine: lots of torque right off idle, but the engine will fall flat on it's face at 4,000 RPM when you try to rev it out.  You may not find that very enjoyable in a sports car.

Since that engine is basically just a stock 351 truck engine anyway, I would look at buying a used 351 engine with good compression.  Get a set of inexpensive aluminum heads like the Edelbrock Performers, an Edelbrock Performer manifold, and a better cam for it.

You will have spent only slightly more than the new truck motor, but you will have something with much better driving characteristics as well as more power.

Something to think about,

Kevin

Coast High Performance, DSS and Keith Craft would be good starts.

General Information / Hurricane in Chicago Area?
July 23, 2007, 02:52:57 PM
Are there any Hurricane owners or builders in the Chicago area?
