HM2038 Build
« on: August 24, 2022, 09:47:20 PM »
Greetings all.  I purchased and ordered my car in April.  Needless to say, with the news of late and my car yet to be delivered I've been concerned.   Jake has been great reassuring me, and I'm expecting my car sometime in October. Jake has been very ģood responding to my questions,  especially since the news broke.  I just look forward to getting my car and starting the build process.   While this is my first Cobra,  it is far from my first build.  Look for "Bass and Hot Rods" on YouTube.  I'd love to hear from you.  Also:  anyone in north Texas have a body buck I can get some measurements off of?  I will be needing it soon and would like to have ir ready when the car arrives.

Welcome to the board and family Larry.
Looks like you bought it as a roller, "turn key minus" I think it's called?
Did you build the engine?
Yes Jake has been very good with tying up the loose ends for hurricane.

Welcome to the forum, Larry!  I also live in McKinney.  I am nearing completion on my yellow HM-2032. I see from YouTube that you also like yellow.   Let me know if you ever need a hand with your build and I will try to help. HM-2032 is my first build and I enjoy the process even with a sub-par manual.

I have a pretty nice chassis dolly if you need it.

Had a great conversation with Jake today.  What a good, stand up guy.  Hopefully next week the headers and exhaust will be done.  He is bonding panels and other work.  We finalized the order and are hopefully getting close to shipping.   Very excited.

I checked out your video, lovely looking motor!

You mentioned not having anything else to do prior to getting your kit...and I thought to share some of my experience that I did mention some in my posts.  If you are trying to get the build done more quickly than slowly, you could contemplate the following:

Wheels and tires - I only needed to build for a couple weeks before I was ready to put mine on.
Coolant reservoir/coolant pipe filler neck/coolant hoses
Engine oil cooler?
Alternative interior details, such as doing something fancy with the dash
Bolts! Motor mounts, trans mount, rear axle t-bolts for the brake backing plates, Bellhousing/trans bolts, starter bolts
Pulleys and belt and accessories (I'm about to install a CVF Serpentine kit, Alternator only)
Fuel pump
Cooling mat stuff
Driveshaft safety hoop
Pre-read the manual

Let me know if you want to discuss stuff in private.

Yes sir, most of that stuff is already in the works. I'm trying to decide on Sniper vs Carb.  I've used the sniper on one of my other projects and like it,  but I'm sort of wanting a simpler build on this one.  Already have wheels and tires, and my brother does incredible custom interiors so that isn't a problem.   I have the CVF pulleys and alternator mount ordered.  The other stuff I can get as needed as I have a Summit Racing store within driving distance of my house

What is the ETA on your kit? And did you get a manual yet? If you want I can run off a black and white copy for you.

Glad to see you guys are making some videos to watch.
Just a heads up with Stewart transport, they were excellent however I had to wait a month I think it was between when the car was done at hurricane and when they were able to get a load scheduled. That was with them knowing about 3 months ahead of time. I'm not faulting them, just trying to prepare you in case you have to wait as well.
Also, if you aren't doing the aluminum on the firewall you could get some fiberglass supplies because the firewall needs smoothed up if you're just going to paint it.
