supplied electric fan
« on: May 14, 2022, 07:07:24 PM »
Can anyone tell me what the CFM on our supplied electric fan is? Or make and model? I'm getting a little hot at idle in traffic. Was at the C-10 national truck show at Texas Motor Speedway today and one of the vendors there had some fans that I would swear pull four times the CFM that ours does. Think I'd like to try one at least double what ours puts out.

How far is your fan spaced off the radiator core?
You should have this Maradyne fan, it's what I have. http://www.maradynehp.com/m162k.html

Perfect. Thanks Greg. The fan is pretty much right up against the radiator. Maybe 1" off. Is that correct or? When it comes on I can feel it blowing but it really is nothing compared to the ones I saw at the show today. And off course mine is at the angle of the radiator and not blowing directly at the engine. Which I assume makes a huge difference. And also not having a shroud directing air flow :( Any words of wisdom?

Also when I say its running hot, it really is not to the point of major concern. Its going up from a steady 185-195 to about 215. Which is not awfully concerning, but bothers me that I cant keep it at a consistent temp. And its not 105 here yet!

1" is too far away from the face of core. you will have quite a bit of air bypassing and not pulling thru the core. Should be 1/4" minimum per their instructions.
Another thing to check that the fan rotation is correct.
From the engine side, the blades should be oriented liked this in pic below and rotate counter clockwise.
The shroud I found that fits our radiator and fan combo best  is from Summit, even though it says its  for a 14, the fan sits perfect for the opening.

My fan is from 1992-1995 Ford Taurus 3.8l turbo ... 2 speed.   it is the BOMB, I never overheat.    The key is the shroud I think.

I agree with Bob. I installed the same 2 speed Taurus fan and shroud and I saw a major improvement in temps. I attribute much of the improvement to the shroud, Very easy install BTW.

Think everyone is correct with the shroud. I bought a 3300CFM one speed with shroud from Summit. Took it out yesterday afternoon and never got above 203. Even after sitting at idle for quite a few minutes. I'll try it again this weekend in hottest part of the day.

Replace the supplied fan with one I had from police interceptor (Crown Vic) it does much better than the Mardyne unit.
