Sealing body gaps along door bottoms and foot box to fender
« on: September 22, 2021, 10:01:51 PM »
Hey guys!  I am wondering what kind of products/techniques you used to seal the gaps between the footbox and the body, especially on the drivers side which is about an 1/2-3/4 inch.  Also, what did you use under the doors between the cockpit tub and the body and along the inside of the cockpit tub and door latch area?  My kit did not come with any thing for this area so I am wondering what we are supposed to do to properly seal this area off?

Some used fiberglas insulation stuffed into those areas as they will be covered by carpet and I think some also used the expandable spray foam type sealer that comes in a can and can be found at Lowes and Home Depot.

I did a lot of different things -- used fiberglass mat for cockpit to the metal footbox on the frame.    Then I formed  aluminum sheet to cover the metal frame footbox (side) to the body , and cockpit to body under the door openings, then covered all that with thermotec Cool-it matt, then carpet padding, then carpet.    I've got lots of pics, if I can ever get my build website finished...

I am using Remflex on the exhaust port flange (AFR205 heads) and on the header to sidepipe flange, and don't have any problems at all after almost 9,000 miles.   The graphite Remflex are meant to compress when torque is applied.  I have no problems at all with footbox clearance.
