LOL I know right!! He was kidding me a bit. Found an old flyer/ad for Robie Ford in Dorchester Mass. Look at those prices back in 1967.

A lot of great looking work.  I wanted to build an engine, but I didn't feel like my experience level was right for this kind of build! Have built plenty of motorcycles engines and abused the hell out of them though!  Those two strokes are so simple and robust.

Thank you! We have a real good (and somewhat expensive) shop here that did the machine work and short block. And we are putting everything else together. I really like these old engines.

Nov 6-7-22Took advantage of the really nice warm weather to get some paint on the Toploader. It's cast iron and started to get a little flash rust. Came out pretty well.

Also wanted to thank Jake at Hurricane for taking care of the few missing items that were missing from the kit. Super nice guy too!

Some recent progress. Winter has been pretty mild so taking advantage of that. Mockup on everything to get spacers etc....correct. Ready to lock in and move on.

The Rocket wheels needed a special lug wrench for the spline lug nuts. $8.80 shipped off ebay. It is REAL thin. Not a lot of room but fits as intended.

Short update. With the recent sale of Hurricane I was concerned getting any missing parts. And yes still had some important things I overlooked.
First was the steering shaft bracket. VERY happy to get this. Was not looking forward to fabbing it. Not super difficult but not having parts or all pictures was the challenge. Thank you to Ben for the fast answer as to what they were and specs. Good to go now

Last thing was the steering wheel boss. I had bought a replacement which I'll hang onto. The Hurricane part is polished aluminum. Holes drilled and tapped for wheel screws. Thicker inset underneath = beefier part! The black painted version was from Cobra Performance. Pretty much same part but few differences. Holes not tapped and shorter inset inside. Not as beefy but still 100% fine to use.
Big shout out to Jake and Hurricane for stepping up to send me these. Can't thank them enough. All parts accounted for. Whew.

Well it has been some time since I made any updates here. Been a 1 step forward 3 step back kinda thing. Bear with me.....
I watch Brent Lykins Motorsports youtube channel a lot. One vid he was reviewing a factory sideoiler block. And he pointed out he needed to install a pipeplug in the bottom rear by the oil pan. This is one of the holes Ford drilled for the sideoiler passage. I went to my saved pics of my engine and saw it was missing!! Easy fix with a new plug. This made me think if the shop forgot anything else. Of course the engine was in the car with bell and trans bolted up. So it all came out. I also forgot to install the distributor drive shaft in the block. Rookie mistake and I know better. I noticed it back when we first got it together a year ago in the car. Sitting in the bag top of my tools. I was going to try to monkey it in from the top distributor hole. But chose to do it correctly with the oil pan off. I also internally inspected the relief valve assy inside the block. Oil things up a bit and be 100% on everything was good. So some muscle getting everything out the the engine back on the stand. That missing plug on the bottom of the engine would have netted 90psi of oil on the floor. I sent Brent a email thanking him for that vid. Saved my azz. But wth new 2 pan gaskets, the distributor shaft in and all plugs in place it all went back together. My iron heads have been milled a bit. So I'm using the Ford PI intake to get it running. That had been milled a little so it all seemed to work and line up. The FE engine has the intake as part of the valve cover rail. So the head and intake need to be close and level. I may get new heads down the road and then use the Blue Thunder intake I had planned for it. And throw in some personal havoc but things are getting back to normal. I'll add some pics below.

This site hates my pics lol..... This week I can finally get the clutch setup and working. Engine is about 70% mocked up. Few things left to buy for that. But things together I can verify what is needed (a fanbelt lol) and get the oil adapter on and hooked up. Intake final install. Rear transmission mount installed. I have a nice Prothane mount, Super heavy duty. Was going to use a stock trans mount but the rubber is like paper. So yes I have bought some doubles on parts.
