Ok....so I was bored at work today and got to thinking (dangerous I know  :-/)

So what would you rather have for a really kick a$$ street cobra...

1) A KCR 408 or 427w with fuel injection and supercharger

or

2) The Pond 482 that Keith puts together

hmmmmmmmmm...?????

Neither of those are THAT streetable IMHO. :-/

But I guess it depends what you consider streetable.

This car could be considered "streetable" since it is street legal

What is your power goal?  I mean, my 408 with aluminum heads will be around 500hp/500tq.  How much power is needed for the street?  Put a blower on that and you are talking mid to high 600 #'s!

I think that if you want to drive it on the street, you should always go for the engine with less weight--you're gonna have to turn corners, after all!!

I'd agree, though--I'd doubt that either of the engines you mentioned would be much fun on the street, although I suspect that the EFI on the stroked Windsor might help it be a bit more streetable.  Ditch the supercharger, though (IMHO)--you'll make a lot of tire smoke but won't go fast.  These things are so light it can be tough to hook up all that power.  "If you must be foolish" (borrowing a phrase that the manufacturer of GT40 kits used in response to my question regarding use of a supercharger), a turbocharger might be a bit of a better idea--the turbo lag would at least give you a chance to get going before the RUSH!!!  Superchargers give a power boost from idle on up to redline!

Sure good for bench racing, though.

Again, just my opinion.................

Dan,

just wondering how your genisis 482 is treating you....i read here and there that the genisis block had some problems in the beginning...any truth to that as far as  you have noticed?

also, i know the block weighs 30 lbs. more than the original SO...how does the car handle with it>

No problems so far, but I haven't driven it much at all. It is still at paint.  Keith says the problems were rectified on the Genisis blocks. I trust him and his work.

IMHO ...... go with a 427w

Plenty of power and you won't break the bank building one and every pound you can get off the front end will make the car handle better on the track. However none of us will be really racing our cars professionally so build a motor that you can drive at the track occasionally and drive on the street most of the time. Big blocks are really close to the foot boxes and will be much warmer on your feet than a small block. (past experience)

If you have the money to do an aluminum block .... go that route but I prefer a cast Dart block.

Gordon Levy

They all build 427 ci small blocks or you could just do it yourself .....that's the fun part.

I also didn't mind mine not being authentic ....."they're all fake" ...lol

If everything seems under control .... your just not going fast enough. (Mario Andretti)

Lu,

whenever i sit back and thing about that "they're all fake comment".....it makes me want to throw the all aluminum Z06 engine in the so called "ford"  :P and see what it can do.

I wish more people would realize that. They aren't original Cobras and never will be. They're replicas and more are being built every single day. Build whatever you want and don't worry about what the "purists say"(who have replicas as well).

I would like to add to this I'm no engine guy nor a drag racer so I tend to look at the #'s and come to my own conclusion

This post on the ffr form made for some good reading (espically since it is exactlly the motor I'm putting in my hurricane)and it puts into pespective the issues of weight, wheel base and traction verse big horse power

I'm sure I am going to start something here and yes ff guys love to toot there own horns

Memo to self: Next build - GTM with a LS9!
Yikes!

Matt

Believe it or not, a GTM is high on my list for a next project. I think a LS9 crate motor may be a little too expensive though. If I run across a wrecked C6, I think I would jump on it and put it in my shop until I decide.

the gtm is a goodlooking car I sat in the red  and the black one the red one has a ls7 in it and sounds great.
you are kinda laying down when you sit in one being that the roof is only 44" I fit no problem(5-7) but my father inlaw (6-0) wasn't

Theres a guy about 15 miutes away building one thats going to end up getting divorced over the car from what I heard( he spends all his time in the garage)
I have also thought about the gtm for the next project but lurk around in the gtm forum for a while and I garentee you will have reservations, in typical fasion F.F has provided you with a half engineered car nothing lines up on the body with out tons of glass work and most claim almost a 1000 hours just to get the body right plus the time to build the car plus 50-60k to do it kinda right
you can build 4-5 cobras in the time it will take to build one gtm
Dont get me wrong i still want one I think I will wait a little while to see if F.F fixes some of the problems
