What a great day for a drive in a Cobra.....especially in OK....... :P   :-/

Just wanted to get some opinions on engines choices.

First off....dont think I'll be doing much track time, maybe the drags every so often.  The car will mostly be a street cruiser, just want to be able to smoke any little rice rocket or other misc. "sport" cars that pull up next to me at the red light.

So my question......FE or stroked 351.

Either way, I'm going to have to piece the engine together, but for the FE I was thinking of a Pond block and the 351 a Dart stroked to 427.

Has anyone had experience with both?  How big is the difference in lowend to midrange torque?  I  know both will be to much power for a 2200 lb. car....but to much is just enough, right?

If anyone has a HM427 in the Fort Sill area of OK....like OKC or Dallas....I'd love to come by and check it out.

Chris B.  let me come up and check out the "Killer Bee" he's got.......smokin' car.

thanks for all the input.

My $.02 worth--go for the stroked 351W.

I attended a Houston Cobra Club dyno day and the clear winners were the 427 stroked 351 W motors--great horsepower and a FAT torque curve.

IMO, a 408 is more than enough for a fun street car.  But if you want a big cubes... why not a 460w?

$7000 for an aluminum shortblock, just $100 more than an aluminum 427w shortblock.

I am a authenticity nut. With that said, Cobras came two ways, 289 or FE.

If you are building a fun car that may resemble a Cobra, current generation small block is OK, maybe even preferred.

If you are building a replica, you only have two choices. (well maybe more since the FE is availaible in about 9 different variations)

If you are looking for return on the dollar invested, FE is the only choice.

408W to be ordered for mine.

Other Hurricane owners in Dallas have 289, 302, 521, and another which I can't remember.

Enjoy the videos of Dallas Club Cobra on my verizon user site.

Dugly,

Do you have any idea who is into the Clevor building buisiness?

I'm not to far from KCR, and from all the positive feedback I've gotten about him, I'd really like him to build it.

jshel1----when is the next get together in dallas, maybe i can bribe the wife with shopping, then just happen to stop by and check out some cobras.

Put whatever you want in the car. The vast majority of "replica Cobras" are running one of many versions of a small block. Using a FE motor has many dis-advantages and if you look at the actual selling prices of cars with FE's, they don't sell for much, if any, more than the others. The two people I know that have big blocks admit they wish they would have gone a 351W. Just remember that you are building a replica, NOT an original, and go into knowing that you'll NEVER sell it for what you have into it. The fun is in the building and driving it.

I agree with Jim, put what you want in it. I personally like having the big block. I like the sound and being able to open the hood and say, "yes, it is a real 427"   8-).

Just my preference.

Ok...so i called KCR about the Clevor and it was a quick no....kinda sounded like i was the first person ever to ask them that....

also got in contact with the engine shop and got someone who had to be in there sales department....reminded me of when i talked to a certain kit company out of florida.....he didnt have alot to say after i told him that i wasnt buying one right that second

i asked the engine shop about toning down one of there clevors, so it wouldnt be at max bore and stroke for the block, you would have thought i asked him to give up his first born.....but hey...i guess we all have our reputation to uphold...:::grunt grunt:::: bigger, more power more power:::grunt grunt::::

so i guess im gonna give the windsor some serious thought.....or i could just suck it up and go for the pond s.o.
