side pipes?

I'm a newbee to Hurricane scene and will be selling my beloved FFR to start a new project.  I'm truly impressed with the attention to feedback as it relates to improving the details of being true to the original shape of the car.  That being said, the side pipes are the only component that gives me reservation.  The 90 degree collector exiting the body seems too sharp and the the pipe seems to angle up at the tip out too much.  I'd really like to see the pipes developed to look like the ones in the pic below.  Any thoughts on revisions in the future?

Welcome cobrajunkie!
I'm not 100% sure about the side pipes. Could you post a photo?
I was just looking at Mikes car and I think the pipes look pretty close to original: http://forum.hurricane-motorsports.com/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1158535946
What do you think?

Here's a picture of what I was trying to describe...

It's no big deal as long as I know I can work them to being level.

As the primaries exit the body, if the outside set of primaries followed the same radius as the inside, it would close the gap and make the turn a bit smoother like the original.

I'll be working on getting those tips down in the rear this winter, which won't be a big deal.

Brad,

Your car is GORGEOUS.  I can only hope mine turns out as well.  I was really hoping that FFR would come around and get the body right but it doesn't look like it will happen.  I really like everything else about the comapny and product but I want something more true to the original look without having to sacrifice performance and that won't break me.

I like what I've seen so far of Hurricane and will be looking to see a car or build in progress up close.   I can't make up my mind to go Roadster or Street but here are a couple of more questions for the crowd...

1.  Is the trunk area sealed and waterproof?

2.  How are the door sills finished where the body meets the doors?  ( I had seen 66rdster adding door sills in his build pics.  That scares me as I'm not experienced in body work)

3.  Is there a soft top available with side curtains?

Thanks
Todd

Hi Todd,
Hopefully I can answer a few of your questions.

1. The trunk liner is sealed to the body with a bulb type weather strip between the trunk liner and the body. The trunk opening itself is also weatherstripped so the trunk lid is sealed. 100% waterproof? I don't know, mines not finished yet so I haven't tried it, but I think that it's sealed fairly well.

2. I added the wide door sill because its a little more like the original cars. This is something that doesn't have to be done to the car. The factory door sill has a piece of trim molding that goes along the edge to finish it. So, it is finished, and it looks good. I wish I had a pic of mine before I added the wide sills to show you what I mean. Some of the things I've shown in my build pics do not have to be done to finish the car. Some items are additions that I just wanted to have and others are to make the car more like the originals. Other items, like extending the lower skirts and moving the side vents forward has already been done by Hurricane on the newer cars.

3. Hurricane does offer a soft top and side curtains as an option. I don't have one, so I can't comment on it, but I'm sure Mike at Hurricane would be glad to give you the details.

I hope I was able to answer your questions. If you need more info on anything, just let us know.

it also eliminates squeaks and rattles and makes the body more rigid.

Jim,

Not that it won't happen as time goes by, I hope not, but right now my car is tight, with no squeeks or rattles.

Todd:

I think I'm safe in saying you can order street cobra elements ala carte if you want, e.g. just the street dash, just the bumpers, grill trim, etc. if you that's what you want, while keeping the other S/C elements, e.g. hood scoop, side-pipes, etc.  In other words you could create a hybrid to get the best of both worlds if authenticity isn't your primary concern. I imagine there are limits to what combinations you could order, but the boys at Hurricane are very flexible on this stuff. Talk to Mike.

cobrajunkie

Thanks all for the replys.  I like the hybrid ideas and will most likely be going this route.  Street dash with glove, heater/defroster,    top, hoops front and rear, and the rest S/C with carbed 392W.   I'll be driving the car MUCH.

This is really good to hear.  I've got 40,000 miles on my current ride in as many years and not a single squeek or rattle.  That would drive me nuts.

I'm not positive, but I don't think the heater/defroster will fit too well with the glovebox.  I am getting the glovebox on mine and Mike questioned whether or not I was getting a heater/defroster.  I live in FLA so I am not. He said that was a good thing because it wouldn't be an easy fit.
Not sure if anyone is currently runnung a heater/defroster with a glovebox, or where they fit them in.

I had this conversation with Mike recently for my car, HM1066.  He informed me that they're now using a new, smaller heater unit that will fit with the glove box. More BTU's than the old unit as well.

Fuzzy

How hot do the side pipes get, are they real leg scorchers?  I've been thinking about getting the street version with the under the car pipes as I have little kids and lottsa animals.  I had them on my old rat car and my wife wouldn't ride with me after her first burn (inspite of frequent warnings).

Can any of you post a shot of your car with the Hurricane soft top up?
How hard is it to put up or on and does it fold or come apart so you can carry it with you in the trunk or behind the seats?  I'm hoping to order before the end of the month and would like to see one as I have to order it all in one shot.

Hey Fuzzy,
The side pipes get very, very hot, even with ceramic coating. Definitely a burn hazard. If your concerned about the wife, kids, etc. getting "snake bit" I'd definitely go with the undercar exhaust.

I personally don't know of anyone who has the soft top. I'd like to see some pics myself. Its something I may consider for mine one day. We have fequent thunder storms in the summer and it might be nice to have it stowed in the trunk, just in case I'm caught far from home and a storm comes up.

P.S. I hear there's a hard top in the works too. Don't know an ETA or any other details on it though.
