I have paint.... ;D ;D
I Got the paint for the car this week-end. Its House of Kolor's Majestic Kandy Blue over Gamma Gold.
I also started turning my garage into a Paint Booth. I have 14 - 2 lamp 4' Flourecent Fixtures, I'm gonna encover the garage with Clear Plastic to create a "Clean" Room. I'll have two fans supplying ventalation and two fans pulling the fumes out.

I have a 60 gallon compressor with two filters for moister and trash.

I'm hoping to shoot the primer next week. I'm gonna to a test job on an old hood a friend of mine has this week.

Any suggestion's and or Ideas would be helpfull.

Thanks,
Phil

Nice garage Phil!
On the gun, see what nozzle size is reccomended for each process. (primer, sealer, base, color, clear etc.)
I have a couple different guns that I use for the different stages but changing the nozzle would also work.
Might be written on the can.

Hey Phil,
Sounds like your on the right track. Good lighting is a must for painting. Looks like you have that covered. The practice hood is a good idea. Also, like Larry said, check what tip size is required for the product your spraying. Usually a 1.3 or 1.4 is fine for everything except maybe the primer. Depending on the primer used, if its high build, might require a 1.7 - 2.2 tip.

And the main thing. Don't forget the safety aspect of it. Use a good respirator or fresh air mask like the Hobby Air unit. Change the respirator cartridges often. I used a new set each time I fired up the spray gun. Maybe a bit of over kill but I'd rather be sure I'm getting good air. Another item is, get some of those disposable paint suits, gloves, goggles etc.

I just got through painting my car also. I'm a novice when it comes to painting, but if you have any questions, let me know. I'd be glad to pass a long what I've learned.

Just a side note on the Hobbyair system.  I bought the full hood and wish I hadn't.  The glare from inside the hood is so bad I can barely see what I'm doing.  I used it through the primer process but will be buying the regular half facemask before shooting color.

Phil, your garage looks really nice

Looks like you are headed on the right track..

BTW.  I'm no expert by any means, but I was very involved in the painting of my car (painters probably wish I wasn't), but I learned that one of those $25 air repirators (3m Dual cartridge) style work fine for primer/sealer/paint. However the painters said you have to use some sort of fresh air full face mask/helmet type thing for the clear coat as the fumes are really dangerous.  He had a full face helmet deal that hooked into the airline to provide fresh air.  Just an FYI on what I've heard, don't want anyone getting ill over all this.

Cheers,
Ryan Cassidy

Ok,
I painted the test hood this week-end. Everything went really GREAT untill I painted the Kandy. I learned I must have patients and the temperature is a HUGHE factor. Saturday was 70 deg, I painted the primer, the White Base for the stripes, taped the stripes and then layed the Gamma Gold Base. Sunday on the other hand was 60 deg and I "KNEW" it was too cold and I painted the Majestic Kandy Blue anyway. It ran really bad. I used a medium reducer (70 to 80 deg), one problem. The other I learned is I layed the Kandy way too fast. PATIENTS >:(PATIENTS :(PATIENTS :'(..This I will have to learn.
Let me know what you all think and any help and suggestions would be great.
Over-all Not TOOO bad for my first time EVER painting.

It actually looks pretty good Phil for someone still learning. I've professional paint jobs that were much worse. Some where it looked like it applied with a damp sock! ;D
Both temp and humidity play a big role. Like you said, the temp was too cold for that reducer.
Just keep practicing and be patient. You're miles a head of most novice painters.
