Hello all,

Just started doing my reserch.  was drawn to the hurricane kit from the start.  looked at a few other comp.  lone star and ffr.  narrowed it down to hurricane or loanstar.

was reading the board here an was impressed with the amount of info owners are willing to share with prospective buyers (another plus for hurricane.)  now in my wandering i found a tread for painted body before shipping?  any truth?  body work is one thing that scares me.  another question i had was about the interior.  is there exposed fiberglass in the inner side of the door?  how had would it be to mount a custom insert?  any owners in ILL?  if so what hoops to jump though to tare up ILL roads?

I thank every one in advance for any help

Hey Casey
The doors are finished smooth on the inside. Mounting some sort of door panel would be easy, say with SS screws or maybe even Velcro.
As far as I know, the body can be ordered finished and I think Jason does the work. (Correct me if I'm wrong guys)
Mike could tell you of any owners in your area and most/all are willing to show you their cars. I'm sure that wouldn't be a problem if one's close.

I was doing some checking on the same thing (having the body finished and painted at Hurricane before shipping) that is an option, you would need to get with Mike at Hurricane for  the details.

Hey Casey, Paul and Larry are correct.

Here are 2 threads on Craig's car. He had them do it.

Jason sure does nice work.  8-)

I believe that Hurricane has at least temporarily stopped offering painted bodies as an option. Call Mike Arps to be sure.
One thing to bare in mind is that you have to remove and install the body at least twice during the build and with all the bending and tweeking necessary to R&R the body, I'd be concerned about the potential for cracking.

Why do you need to remove the body twice?

One time for the engine install I can understand (I would think getting it painted at that time.)

what is the second time for?

Thanks for all the help.  (man i should proof read three or four times for spelling chekcs.)  another question i had was building the car myself, due to time constraints is going to take a while.  three small children and two jobs, is there anything i would should be concered about not being in good shape after lets say a two to four year build?  obviously the motor would be the last theing to be purchaced.  i'm also thinking non paint may be the way to go for me.  less posibilty for damage.

thanks again

Joey, the second step after your car arrives is to remove the body (first step is to drill windshield frame mounts). Then, much later in the build there is a step involving mounting the trunk lid latch, where it is much easier and accurate to mount and remove the body. Though you can accomplish this step without mouning and removing the body, it is preferable to do so. The manual details both ways to accomplish this - one without mounting the body and one with.

Thanks Matt, that helps.  I know my thoughts were to take directly to the paint shop (of course I plan to opt for the stage 2 build to save time) Stage 2 might be an option for Casey as well since it sounds like time is an issue for him as well.

I figured to have the paint shop do any mounting needed, then remove the body to be painted and I would take it home for the engine/transmission install.

 ::) Casey,
I am about 31 miles west of Peoria, Ill. Where are you in Illinois?

Just outside of chicago.  its going to be at least one year (most likley two) befor i can purchase.  fourth child now on the way.  will defintly want to take a look later on if still not to far ( a two to three hour drive to see a cobra is worth it.)

thanks
