Are the roll bars on the Hurricane functional or cosmetic? How are they attached to the frame. Is it possible to add a passenger side roll bar?

When I ordered mine I had them weld all the passenger side mounts to the frame, but bought only the driver's side bar.  I wanted an authentic look, but the ability to easily add the passenger bar if I ever decided to do so.

And they are WELL welded into the main frame.

Are the bars themselves of a gauge that would support the weight of the car in the case of a roll-over? I can't recall which, but another replica manufacturer's roll-bar is considered cosmetic. Hard to believe, considering how simple if would be, and at such a relatively low cost, to make them a true safety feature.

I don't know what manufacturer you're speaking of, but I'd imagine that they say that for liability reasons.  If they say it will for sure hold the car up, and something goes wrong, guess who gets included in the law suit.  Oh , who am I kiddin, they'd get sued anyway with the frivolous law suits the way they are.

In all reality, it doesn't take much to hold the car up.  It really doesn't weigh very much.  That size hoop in A36 steel is probably capable of holding  the 1000 to 1500lbs required of it in that event.  The problem could lie in a multiple rollover where the hoop coul dbe torn free from its mount.  It wouldn't hold anything up then.  Anybody here have an A36 Head?  ;)

I've been told I have a pretty hard head  ;) Don't know if its up to A36 specs though.

The roll bar is contructed from some pretty heavy steel. I don't know the size or specs. I would think Mike Arps could answer that and if it would support the weight of the car. I'm confident that it would, but its best get it from the horses mouth. Its certainly not some light gauge tubing like what would be used for exhaust systems or anything like that etc.
