Hurricane Fake Knock offs-question

What you typically find on the fronts is there is most likely a high spot keeping the center from going deeper into the wheel.  If you can find the high spot and sand it down a little, they slide inside the wheels very nicely.  We just fit a set for a turn key car and had to massage the fronts a little and now they fit great.  Hope this helps.

Mike,
I have tried it with the fronts and it doesnt work...I have sanded them down to the point where they almost have holes in the fiberglass.  Are the fronts and the back different sizes???

I purchased the fiberglass insert wheels that you're talking about from Hurricane, painted the glass inserts with Rust-Oleum brilliant metallic finish after carefully preping them, " bodywork", and my car nut friends ask me if they are real knockoffs. Some of these people are professional wrenches and can't tell from less than six feet away. The fiberglass inserts are a little crude as delivered, but can be fixed with a little minor sanding, filling, priming and painting. I would buy them again because of the relatively low price.

Jim, can you post a picture of the side view with the wheels on.  I ordered 'em too and now I'm uneasy about the lot as I still don't have 'em here yet.   Ken

Does anyone know the size of the tires required for the wheels with the fake knock offs?

Mike Watts

:) Front 235 60 15,  Back 295 50 15    They look great on the rims and on the car!!

I ordered 245/60/15's for the front, 295/50/15's  Avid S/T for my wheels.   I had heard you could go with 315's for the rear.   There are many discussions here on the site  re. tires and wheels.  Use the search engine to find them, also check out the manufacture's sites to check tire ht. so you don't end up with a cartoon car.

There is a easy fix, look at my build HM 1106.

They fit perfect :)

Hi Guys,
My front wheel fiberglass centers do not go all the way in either.  They sit on top of the chrome allen head bolts that rim the steel wheel.  It appears that if these bolts were not present the insert would fit right in.  Looking at the pictures in this thread I did not notice any of these allen head bolts, did you remove them or do I have a different type of wheel?   I guess it would be no big deal to remove them as long as they decorative only.

thanks,

moe

Moe, my rims came with no screws installed, take them out.
Good luck, mine took some work but I am happy with them.

Thanks Randy,
I'll take them out this weekend and let you know how it turns out.

They booby-trapped me!  They weren't bolt's at all,  they were chrome plated plastic plugs.  Pulled them out with pliers and everything fits much better.  Still require some sanding, etc., but they will look good when complete.
