15" hallibrand wheels with cosmetic center

Does anyone have this option?  And you are happy with this?  Does it look correct or does it look like a hub cap?  Thanks.

beleve it or not the wheeles on the red street version are the wheels you are questioning

The halibrand replicas are a very nice wheel. However, a nice feature of the Hurricane Wheel with the cosmetic center is that you can paint the center to achieve a different look. This is a nice option for some folks. The wheel pictured above is unpainted and probably not the color most would go with.

It's amazing how close the casting is to the original.

You can paint the center section of either wheel.  The original style wheel on the left looks to be Vintage Wheels.  The center section on those come painted (or powder coated) that color instead of natural cast.  Paint them any color you wish.

Doug, maybe I misunderstood your question, but these are steel wheels with what is essentially a plastic or fiberglass hub cap. Remove the spinner, then the "hubcap" and you see lugs holding on a steel wheel.

I thought I heard that the centers of the hallibrand wheels could be powder coated. If they are plastic can you powder coat plastic. Cause in powder curing your oven curing temp is 400 degrees for 20 minutes. That might melt them or at least warp them. Can some one clearify for me.

Ron,

There are two types of wheels discussed here.  One is a single piece cast aluminum type below.   The original cars ran these types of wheels (but magnesium).  The outside rim was polished and the hub was left rough cast.  The same wheel is being offered by Hurricane has a more finished center section which is either painted or caoted. I'm not sure which but regardless it can be painted any color you wish.
A finished center like this makes cleaning and maintenance MUCH MUCH easier.



The other type is a more economical type stamped steel chrome 5 bolt wheel (below) that has a plastic center hub cap type cosmetic cover (which looks darn good BTW).  The plastic center cannot be powdercoated but can also be painted any color you wish.  The paint these days holds up real well even out of a rattle can.  The wheel underneath would start by looking somehting like this first pic below.  Then add the hub in the center for the finished product in the bottom pic.
