General Information / Re: Build School in Michigan
June 03, 2007, 12:28:08 PM
My son and I attended the Mott build school before we decided to build a Cobra. It was the best thing we could have done to prepare. We were both well versed on car mechanics and maintenance, but the Mott school filled in the holes neither of were aware of. We have builtt a couple FFRs and are finishing up a Hurricane ( I wanted to see what the differences were). The school saved us valuable time in not taking the wrong paths. Building the FFRs also helped us in building the Hurricane. My two cents say it is worth the investment to go, unless you are already a professional builder.

CD, I have built both FFR and Hurricane cars. The Hurricane is definitely easier to build. Several pieces of aluminum versus over 40 for the FFR is one key feature. The Hurricane kit comes more complete with very few items left that you have to buy. FFR makes a great kit, but it has its origins in racing, and unless you are going to race your car, the Hurricane has more creature comforts (legroom, elbow room, shoulder room, etc). The big cost variable is how much you put into the engine and transmission. $40,000 is a good figure if you put quality wheels, tires, engine and transmission in it, but you can build it for somewhat less with a smaller engine, etc.

The selling price is set by the market. Look at the recent Barrett-Jackson auto auction and you will see this in spades. Shelby's "Super Snake" sold for over $5M. A FFR roadster sold for $75,000. Many of the cars you see in the internet are in the $25K to $50K range. An old timer who has been in this game a while told me to keep the replicars as close to the original as possible for top price. That includes interior, exterior and color, and engine & transmission combination. The 427FE, top loader transmission and all the components that Hurricane provides, plus good workmanship, will get you top dollar.

General Information / Re: Just ordered 1077, Can't wait!

I don't know where you live, but Southern Automotive can prepare a package for you better than most.  I am having them build a big block with top loader and scatter shield, etc, etc. for a very good price.  They deal very positively with their customers, unlike other suppliers already mentioned. Mention my name and maybe they will throw in an extra or two.

Where did you get the roll bar trim rings and foot box coolers?
