General Information / Re: Slow forum
November 16, 2007, 10:43:57 AM
I checked with everyone and no one "moderated" it. I have had a similar experience though. I think it is some kind of timeout issue in the forum software. I have taken to creating my large posts in a text editor and pasting them in. I have lost large posts and I know it is frustrating. Sorry about that.

Doug,
I don't think any posts of yours (or anyone else) were deleted. Maybe it moved to the next page? I see your post right before D_Cook's. Send me a PM if something still seems out of wack.

General Information / Re: accessories/options

Basically, if the item is an upgrade (e.g. replaces another part), you are better off buying it at the time of purchase - otherwise you will have to pay full price for the item instead of the upgrade price. This includes items like brakes, adjustable coil overs, etc. Other items like wind wings, sunvisors, door pockets, etc. you can purchase any time for the price that is on the website. Some other items like the Aluminum firewall, heater, and wiper assembly are better off being purchased up front as they are much easier to install during the build. Hope that helps.

General Information / Hurricane at Run and Gun
October 09, 2007, 02:31:46 PM
Well, we thought that we would not be able to make it at all this year, but a small window has opened up for us so we will be making the trek to Run and Gun in St. Louis. We will be there Friday evening and Saturday during the day. We hope to see some of you there.

Thanks,
Rich

Thought I would point out a few nice things about our suspension. See pictures below for reference. First, because of how we mount our steering rack, we drastically reduce bump steer by ensuring the tie rod ends are as close as possible to level when the car is at ride height. Also, notice the fully adjustable upper A-Arms - they allow you to adjust the caster and camber trackside without removing any suspension components. Also notice how they mount to the frame. Most Mustang II based suspension mount to the top and "adjust" using a slot. When this type of suspension receives a big jolt (pot hole, hard corner etc.), they have the tendency to slip. We use race proven components to mount the upper arm in a way that guarantees that it will not change due to slippage. All connection points to the frame utilize teflon coated heim joints.

(I stole a couple of pictures from the owners build posts to help illustrate below - Thanks Alfredo!)

First of all, I appreciate the interest in this topic. For those of you that do not know, I would like to explain that this is a private forum run entirely by Hurricane Motorsports. We host it, we moderate it and we allow no advertisers here. We run it entirely for the benefit of our customers (past, present and future). We have two main areas in our forum: A public area open to everyone that contains questions about Hurricane's cars from prospective customers as well as posts by our existing customers wanting to show off their cars to the public and answer questions. We also have a private side dedicated exclusively to the use of our existing customers. Now, I understand the desire of our potential customers wanting to have access to the private side of the forum. But, as a company, we have decided that it is important to give our existing customers an area that is exclusively for their private use. They are free to post and discuss topics without regard as to who might be reading it. It is a constructive and collaborative environment that most of our customers find extremely helpful during their build. Of course, all of our customers are free to discuss their build on the public side of the forum as they want. Many have even set up their own websites that document their build.

We currently have roughly a 3-to-1 ratio of posts on the private side to the public side. As our customers will attest, there is a wealth of information on the private side of the forum. However, none of it is secret or intentionally hidden. There are no hidden gotcha's on the private side - just real world solutions, tips, and discussions. As most of you know who have done your research, our company's product and service is very highly regarded by our current and past customers.

The private side is a forum dedicated solely to our customers and offers them a carefree environment that our they can use to help ensure that they have as productive and enjoyable build as is possible. Marketing and sales are very important to us (as it is for any company), but we weigh that against the fact that, in this business, the most critical time for new kit owners is the time between the delivery of the kit and the completion of the kit. If not handled properly, this is the time when folks will abandon their build if they don't feel they have the resources needed to complete it. We have an extremely high completion rate of our builds.  Yes, we know that it might help with sales to open the private side of the forum, but we are not willing to compromise the primary purpose of that part of the forum: helping current customers be successful in their builds. In the end, we want to help our customers to complete their build in the most positive and enjoyable way possible so that when asked, they can recommend Hurricane Motorsports without hesitation.

General Information / Re: Wheel Bolt Circle
August 06, 2007, 01:25:38 PM
All of our kits ship with 5 lug 4.5" ford bolt pattern in the front and rear (both the 9" and IRS). It is very common to use the GM Metric caliper with the spindles we use. Pads and aftermarket parts are inexpensive and readily available.

General Information / [removed]: THIS FORUM
August 05, 2007, 12:09:14 PM
We don't do it very often, but I have removed this thread. I would like to see topics start in a more non-confrontational way. This topic is already being actively discussed in this thread. Please offer your constructive comments there.

QuoteLarry,

...
Where did you get those much lighter weights from?  They do sound much better.  When I was at the Good Guys car show in Kansas City I found the Hurricane booth which is what got me all excited about building a Cobra replica.  Of course that was my first taste of them, I didn't know what to look for or what questions to ask.  The person who helped me out at the show was very helpful and seemed to know a lot about the cars.  I asked about the weight, twice actually, and he pointed to one of the cars and told me it was 2700 lbs and that black one you see with the number 98 on it (on the home page) he said was 3000 lbs because of the big block.  Was he mis-informed?

Thanks
Malcolm

Malcolm,
I am sorry I did not get a chance to talk with you directly at the Good Guys show.  You might have been talking to one of our newer associates. We had a crazy busy weekend there and recruited help from some of our employees. I think he was a bit mistaken in his weight estimates...

To answer you question, the weight of a smallblock car (the silver car at the show) with 1/2 tank of gas and cast iron heads is around 2350. Big block 80-100lbs more. You can easily shave 100 lbs if you are weight conscious.

The height is fully adjustable front an rear. As far as the frame goes, I think it would help to see the quality of our welds and the strength of our frames first hand. We have customers with over 800hp in our frame without issues. On top of that, our "standard" 3 link rear and adjustable A-Arm front suspension are top notch in strength and quality.

Since we didn't get a chance to talk (and I assume you are local), perhaps you could come in for a shop tour and we can talk about what we offer. We are always happy to go over the details of our kit.

Rich

Sections are now available for installing upgraded carpet and IRS assembly (still in draft). The final revisions of the manual are largely done, but we are waiting on several pictures that need to be taken during our next stage 2 assembly project. The new manual will be available for customers via a PDF download.
