General Information / Re: My Visit to Hurricane

I did see some of the Cibies on EBAY.  They look close to the original ones used on the Gumball car.  Can't seem to find the model # of the fogs anywhere on the net.  Googled it without any luck.  So I might have to take the plunge and order one just to see the fit and how I would mount it.  The Gumball car appeared to mount them to a bar between the bumperettes and left the hoop off.  I'm going to try to figure a way to mount them to the hoop and hopefully get a similar look.  It's all fun.  Maybe I'll have the car completed to drive to car shows next year.  It's September, your car should be on its way shortly  :)

I'll have to get that carb. info. for you.  It has been sitting in a box since 1984 and now is at my engine builders shop.  I asked him if he thought I should go with a new carb or maybe a EFI carb look alike system.  His response was hell no!  He said he could make that carb perform as well as any new carb or EFI system (minus the better gas mileage with the EFI).  Plus it was defeating the purpose of keeping the period correct appearance, which I am trying to do.  So, that means mounting fuse blocks, etc., on the firewall as the original cars as well as several other visual correct things.  The only thing I'm having a little difficulty finding is a pair of the Cibie fogs, which you pointed out....good observation buy the way.  I purchased a couple of items that were original on the car and sent them to Alec to use in place of some of the parts that Hurricane supplies that give it a more period correct look as well.  Until the car gets here I think I'll have just about all I need.  Hope your parts search goes well.  I have learned that patience really is a virtue.

I went with an original 427 FE.  I was also able to pick up an original SHELBY stamped intake manifold which I felt like I was very fortunate to obtain as even then they were pretty hard to find. The engine survived, which was a miracle but, unfortunately, when the car was stolen and  found at the bottom of a canal 10 years later the aluminum or whatever light weight material they used to manufacture the intakes back then, was trashed.  Flowing water and aluminum don't play well together.  Lost the original Holley carb. as well.  Fortunately I bought 2 of them at the time from then Ford Power Parts in the Los Angeles area.  I think they are long gone now.  Alec said the car will be in paint soon.  I know he's doing his best to complete HM 2025 and get it out the door to make more room for more Cobras.  Going to be hot here this week end.  Not going to do much on a new garage I'm building that will sport the Cobra.  Not sure which one will get completed first.  Have a great week end.

Looks outstanding!  Well worth the time it took now that you're finished.

I bet the anticipation is killing you.  They're probably busy working on your car and put mine on hold, LOL. But, that's OK.  If I have to wait a couple more months I'm OK with that.  Its too hot here to get out and do anything on it anyway.  I went with HM mostly because they said they could get the car done and shipped in several months.  However, I did make a couple of changes which took a little time to engineer, the hood being one of them.  I talked to Peter at ERA and he said about a 2 year wait on a complete build, minus engine and tranny. Even a kit was a year and half wait.  I don't have the energy to source all the parts the kit required like the first car I built plus a lot of the original parts are harder to locate.   HM I thought was the next best choice.  So here I am...patient waiting.  I know when we get our cars we won't be disappointed.  Have you decided to go with a Top Loader or a TKO? In my ERA car I went with the top loader and 355 rear end.  Glad gas was cheaper then!!!!

I love the 427 FE. The first one I saw and heard was in  65 Cobra.  It sported two Holly carbs.  You could hear that car whenever he came to town.  It was especially exciting because his girlfriend lived down the street!  Sorry, I just got sidetracked.  I went with the TKO because of the 5 gears.  Hopefully with the 331 IRS, and a sort of over drive capability I'm hoping to get an acceptable compromise between performance and gas milage.  The ERA car gave me about 7 miles/gallon...passed everything but a gas station as they say, which I proved to be a true statement.
How far along are you on your project?  How is your engine set up?0

I'm going with a 427 Side oiler with Edelbrock heads and a holley carb. and a TKO 600 churning a 331 gear I.R.S.  I was talked out of putting another top loader in the new build (HM2025) for the TKO.  I wanted to stay as period correct as possible but I folded on the tranny.  I originally bought the engine and ran it in an ERA #85 car that I built in the early 80"s.  In that car a ran a 4 speed top loader with Hurst shift linkage.  The car was stolen after 1100 miles which was recovered about 12 years later.  The body was trashed but the engine was rebuildable which I just recently did.  So, to make a long story short I'm anxiously waiting for the crew at Hurricane to finish up their part so I can take delivery and get that sucker on the asphalt.  How's your build coming along?

LOL 😆.  Probably no radar detector.  I always obey the speed limit signs.....NOT!  Not possible with a Cobra.  I'll take my chances...as well as the back roads.

Hey Greg.  The car going to CA is mine.  Been waiting for it to go to the paint shop and after, final assembly less engine and tranny which I will complete once it gets here.  It's a great observation to notice the hood vents fashioned after the Gumball Rally Cobra, a movie I've watched a countless number of times, as a small detail.  Not too many without an eagle eye would notice. Paul Proefrock as well as Alec at HM have been so helpful to me on this build.
