General Questions / Re: Activity
« on: January 23, 2020, 10:13:38 PM »
Bob,
You car looks great. I enjoyed following your build with every post.

My wife and I finished the season by driving HM-2018 to the local theater to watch Ford vs. Ferrari. We parked in front of the theater and it was a real crowd pleaser.

This summer we drove to Lincoln, Nebraska to see a car show at Speedway Motors corperate. With some encouragement from others we entered our car in the show. To our suprise we won first place in the Replica Class.  We were not able to get the trophy in the trunk, so we stood it up on the floor of the car for the 50 mile drive home on I-80. 😊

Over the two short seasons since completion we have clocked 8K fun and trouble free miles.

This car is a blast to drive and own.
Thank you Hurricane Motorsports

I will be attempting first engine start on Saturday December 8th -- wish me luck  :D
Bob,
It will go just fine.
If the engine builder used your distibutor for the dyno run you should be good on the timing.  Turn the ignition switch to RUN to let the fuel pump bring up pressure and look for any leaks. Adjust the fuel pressure regulator to specified setting for your EFI. Should pop right off with that EFI.
It's going to be a significant emotional experience you will never forget.  I'll be pulling for you on the 8th.

Bob,
Thanks for the detailed build posts. Your planning and workmanship on those pipes is outstanding.

Looking very nice Paul. That IRS is going to be sweet. I would like to hear that eight stack when you get the side oiler cranked up. Thanks for updating us on the build. Can't wait to se more.

Build Pictures / Re: Fuel injection/Fuel lines

Jason,
Like Paul I don't  have pics.
I am running an MSD Atomic system with the fuel return and their external 600HP pump option. The filter and pump are mounted on the diagonal cross-brace between the tank and pumpkin. The non-metalic fuel lines provided with the optional fuel return system runs along the inside of the passenger side frame rail and anchored with rubber insulated mounting straps. The fuel regulator is mounted on the firewall in the tank return line. The fuel supply and return connections on the MSD Atomic throttle body are located on the passenger side of the throttle body similar to a carberator.

Except for fuel starvation on WOT and hard left turns when fuel level is less than 1/2 tank, it works very well. I am getting 12.5 to 13.5 MPG with my FE 427 side-oiler stroked to 451.

I would like to see an available optional fuel tank for fuel injection applications to address the fuel starvation issue.

Best regards
Russ C

General Questions / Re: Body weight

My wife and I lifted the body for HM-2018 to set it on top of the frame, cockpit and trunk tub when we were running short on space in our garage during the build. My wife lifted from the front to clear the frame and I lifted it over my head to get it over the trunk tub. Both of us are size, weight and muscle challenged and we had no trouble at all. Yes it is bulky, but not heavy. I'm guessing less than 90 pounds.

Bob,
Yep! Another good idea from Paul. As you are cosidering, I marked the boss where the set screw would be when the turn signal handle is located where I wanted it and then took the foot off the set screw. With the turn signal switch removed, I drilled a dimple for the set screw to contact the boss where I had previously marked the desired location. The turm signal is very rigid now and does not move about the steering wheel boss as before.

More pics of the door check stop install. I ordered 10', but only used 2' of the webbing. Here is what I have left. If anyone wants it I will put it back in the padded envelope and send it to you.

Build Pictures / Re: HM-2018 Build Thread - Door Check Stops
« on: March 17, 2018, 05:39:46 PM »
Worked on installig door check stops today. I have been using a piece of split rubber fuel line tubing placed over the door opening edge to keep the door hinge from contacting the finished body and chipping the paint.
I know this solution isn't authentic to the original cas, but fuel EFI, HEI and heated seats aren't either.
I purchased 2" wide flat webbing material from Strapworks.com for $0.69/ft. This webbing comes in about every imaginable color.
I heated my rat-tale file to melt the holes for the bolts and to "coterize" the cut ends of the webbing to prevent it from fraying.
Here are some pics I took during the install.

Russ,
I wanted to drive the cobra down to Missouri to take my Mother for a ride. Unfortunatly she passed just before Christmas at '82'. She would have enjoyed that windey road.
Two years ago, at '80', my Mother was upset at the local Chevy dealer, because they wouldn't point out to her where the oil drain plug was on her new pickup truck. She traded that truck off for a Ford with stipulation that they show her where the drain plug is located. She got a lot of satisfaction out of changing her own engine oil. :)

Russ,
I am hoping the Nebraska Legislature is successful in passing a new Legislative Bill LB909 to remove the need to send proof of ownership to the State so they can issue a seperate Nebraska assigned VIN for the car. The new bill also strikes the "kit" car description and replaces it with "replica" and the year it represents.  The car will then be tiled as a 1965 replica and be taxed as a 1965.
The Legislative session ends on April 15th and I hope our dear friend Senetor Earnie Chambers from North Omaha doesn't try his usual filibuster to stop progress.

Russ,
That is sweet. I've been thinking about that same thing. Pretty tough to get Tow Mater to come out into the Sandhills of Nebraska with no cell coverage. The vultures would be finished before anyone finds us.
Have you thought about some type jack?
I will be looking for a pin-drive compatible wheel.
