General Information / Re: Power Steering Option
June 17, 2008, 06:46:00 PM
I know the shell valleys have a ps option.  The units them selves are not too bad I can get the for under $200 if I remember right. ( I would have to look it up)  They use a straight steering shaft and 3/4 inch u-joints.  I can get the u-joints and the rack, but not the shaft.

My car is in the kansas city world of wheels.  Stop by if you get a chance.  It is in the cobra club's booth.

I think the main reason the owners side is not public is because it is not really moderated and the hurricane guys just dont have the time to do that.  We would need to appoint a moderator or two I think.

You can get 15 inch or 17 inch wheels in various sizes and back spacing.   When you get to the dark side (the private forum)  You will get tons of info on this.

Paint depends on how much you do yourself.  If you have someone do all the body work and paint look at around 6.5 to 8k  That would be about the same with ffr or hms.  Although the ffr body requires a ton more work.

You can get by with much cheaper paint jobs, but you get what you pay for.

General Information / Re: More Power needed?

I would of liked to of driven Tom's car more briskly but to be honest it scared the poop out of me lol.  He had a rear end issue that made it feel like you were driving on a banana lol.  But I bet it is unreal to bring that sucker up to 9k lol

I am in SpringHill, Kansas and still building mine so I am local to you probably.  I love the hurricane.  I have a neighbor that has an FFR and he was really impressed with the hurricane and the way it was built.  You look at the cars side by side and there is really no comparison.  You can make the FFR look just as good, but it will cost you more money in the long run.

I will add one more thing.  There really is no such thing as too much power.  It boils down to experience driving fast cars, although accidents happen all the time.  What people need to realize is that the throttle is not an on and off switch  ;D

Its a personal choice.  I like the outside to look as correct as possible.  Personally it takes something away from the car when I see a guy pop his hood and I see a modern mustang motor in there.  They are great motors, but it screams "kitcar" to me.  I want mine to scream replica.  I went with the 351w but went for the big block look with the valve covers and also stuck the mass flo system in which I love.  There is something to be said about not having to tinker with it and fuel economy :)  You just need to realize that you are building this car for you, so do the things you like.

I have seen them in there before so I know that they have been.  I am hoping on having mine in there once I am complete as well.  I have had other cars in magazines before.  Its nice bragging rights lol  ;D

Keith Craft built me a 550hp stroked 408 from a 351w.  It's fuel injected now and has plenty of power.  It's light and it thumps hard with the big cam.  Gives me the feel of the big block without taking the room away from my feet.  Plus on the track it is going to be easier to move around.

I would go with a big block.  It will remind you of your father every time you drive it.  You can get 390's pretty easily.
