I'm about 5 hours Sough of you in NM.  I'm SERIOUSLY considering getting rid of #1042.  I had it finished, but no paint/carpet, when I had an engine problem with the 428FE.  Engine is now in the teardown/rebuild stage.  Pix of my build are on the site.  If interested, maybe a trip down here is in order???

General Information / Re: More Power needed?

My last XX-Brand Cobra had a 289 in it.  Albeit a 9k RPM screamer 289.  It would blow my 454-Corvette in the weeds and I managed to scare my self silly in it more than a few times.  That's why my Hurricane has a 428 FE!  I needed something a bit more tame! ;D

When I bought my engine block he guy who had it was trying to sell me a nearly-completed GT-40.  If I thought my wife wouldn't have KILLED me, I'd have snapped it up in a second.  Those are BEAUTIFUL cars!  Welcome!

I agree that the FRPP 351 is as good as it gets for us budget-minded folks.  Actually, even though I am running an FE, I think the 351-W based engines are the best things for these cars unless you have unlimited funds and can put a new injected MOD engine in it.

I ordered my kit then started my engine build around the same time.  I also ordered the transmission at that time.  You DO need to know what engine and transmission you will be running when you order yours, but you don't necessarily have to have them yet.  Other than a few parts that HMS was having trouble getting, I waited for nothing.

Great.  Just what we needed; ANOTHER Jim!

Congrat's on the purchase.  And have fun trying to sleep as the delivery date nears.

There are LOTS of them in the build pictures section.  Are you looking for a specific combination?  Photo angle??  ??????????

EDIT:  Wait a minute.  Are you looking for someone to host pic's of YOUR engine???  I'm not getting the question.  But I'm not very smart either so maybe someone else will jump in with what you need.

If you've already lived with a 289, then ignore my advice.  My last Cobra had a 289 that pulled nicely up to (gulp) 9K RPM.  It was a SCREAMER at anything above 5K.  But it lacked ANY low end torque and thus, I found it not so much fun to drive around town.  The 4.56 gears helped, but it just wasn't a big block.  That's why THIS one has a 428FE!

Welcome, Randy!

That's going to one scootin' car with a 429/C6!

What are you looking at for a delivery date?

Someone here (onebadmofo?) built one of the early ones with a sbc (bbc?).  Easy to do.  Just tell them what kind of engine/trans you want to put in when you order the car and they'll set it up for the right mounts.

If the world were a fair place, I'd have built mine with a BBC, as they're much cheaper than FE or 385 Fords.  And I'm familiar with the GM engines.  BUT... if you ever intend to sell it, be prepared to take a loss equivelent to giving the engine away.  99.9% (A conveniend made-up figure) of folks shopping for a Cobra want to see a Ford under the hood.  A 289 Ford powered Cobra will sell for more than a 454/510 Chev. powered one.  And if it's a FE, the stock goes up.

Since you're wanting a "Cruiser," have you considered your local Ford dealer?  Nice crates at nice prices with nice warranties.

Oh.  And, "Welcome!"  What's your car #?

Glad to hear it Paul!  I know you were looking at a LOT of manufacturers and doing quite a bit of homework.  I'm glad to see that Hurricane met your high standards.

As far as the tap, I did need one to clean out the residual junk from the tie-rod ends.  I bought a bottoming-tap in 5/8"-18 for that job.  IIRC,, I ordered it from Wholesale Tool, www.wttool.com for under $5.00.

I "think" (always dangerous) they are hoping to have it ready for the Good Guys show in K.C. on Sept 1,2,3.  But they're so darned busy down there...
