Steering boss tight on shaft
« on: February 15, 2025, 07:28:14 PM »
Hey everyone, HM2036 owner here, and I am installing my steering. When I received the car the aluminum boss was already on the steering shaft, and I rigged up a puller to get it off, it was very tight.  I am re-installing and it seems unusually tight, it will not go on by hand, and if I use a mallet it will start to deform the aluminum splines.  I can probably pull it in place with a bolt/washer, but wanted to check with the experts if this was typical, as it almost feels like an interference fit?  Thanks in advance for you help, really appreciate it.

It will not go on by just pushing it on. I remember that it's definitely a tight fit. Just make sure you get the splines lined up and use the bolt and washer to put it in place. If you deformed the boss splines you may need to use a small fine file to clean them up. A little grease or lube will help too to get it back on the shaft.
