I'm planning a Street version, using a 351w based engine with a pro flo 4 EFI. As it is a Street version, I don't want to use the hood scoop unless necessary. Has anyone had any clearance issues? How close is it to the scoop, and will it clear without it?
I was unable to fit mine without the hood scoop. I have a Smeding 427W with a Victor Jr. intake manifold in my car. It sits high of the hood by about an inch.
It will also depend on the intake height. Not sure what you are committed to on your setup. Think Greg had quite a bit of room. Mine will be pretty close but should clear ok. But it's a different engine series. Check the engine mounts. Some are different heights.
I'm using the entire Pro-Flo system
Hard to say, but it'll be close or will need a scoop. That Pro-Flo intake is some kinda hybrid of the victorJr and airgap I think. My engine is 302 with lower deck height than a 351 (about 1.3" difference) and using a performer intake (1.5"-2" lower) than a 351 with those taller intakes. Do not know how the throttle body compares to a carb height wise.
From the Edelbrock site it shows manifold height at 6.25" and the EFI at 2.53" for 8.78" total.
How does this translate into hood clearance? Jake is finishing the hood now and I need to know if I should just tell him to cut the hood.
You will need to find someone who will measure their combination by placing a 2' level on top and measure to the deck of the block front and back from the top of their air cleaner. Height of intake manifold is difficult use, because plenum depth down into the lifter galley varies.
I think, after considering all this, I'd be better off with the scoop. It ensures everything fits plus will keep the engine compartment cooler.
I went with the solid hood, no scoop. I can always cut the hole and add the scoop if I need to. But I really want it without the scoop. Think it over well before you decide. Unless you are 100% sold on the scoop look.
