Title: Fitting parking brake cables
Post by: aarvig on January 14, 2017, 09:58:04 PM
Hey guys!  Just curious, what is the best way to cut/shorten the cable housings?  What about the actual cables?  I was just going to use a hacksaw or bandsaw and thought I better ask on here to see if there are any tips available. ;)

Either hacksaw or bandsaw will work - make sure to take the inner cable out first  :-[

Also, check your axle articulation before you cut to the final length. Very difficult to use if you cut them too short

Good call on the cable length.  How do I know if I have enough to accommodate for the live axle travel?

Aaron, here is how I routed my e-brake cables:

The most frequently used tool in my build was a hand-held pneumatic cutting wheel.  For smaller diameter cable a cable cutter is the better call.  Just be sure to tightly tape the cable and cut through the tape to avoid fraying.

Remove the springs from the coil-overs. Raise the frame and let the axle hang on the shocks - that will be your full down position. Then raise the axle till it contacts the stops, that will be your full up position.
