Title: Advantages of Hurrican cobra ?
Post by: Carlos555 on January 28, 2009, 07:37:56 AM
Can anyone tell me the advantages of the Hurricane cobra over other popular kit car makers? I'm leaning toward the purchase of a Hurricane. Can anyone tell me any selling points ?

I think the main reason most of us went with Hurricane was due to the following:  most complete kit for the cost, all new parts.  body shape very close to original,  lot of options to make your kit a bit more this or that and the people we were dealing with when we bought our kits.....now things are on hold with the new owners as you can read in various places.  Cruise through the build sections on the forum and finished kit photos and you will get a feel for the kit.  In additon, we have one of the most positive and helpful forums in the business.  Hopefully when the new owners are up to speed, their improvements will make the Hurricane an even more killer kit.

Carlos, there are several reasons I feel Hurricane is one of the best kits available as compared to other brands.
1) Well built frame with dropped footboxes, subframe around engine and dashboard , fiberglass cockpit liner (tub) and trunk liner and an x member under the transmission.  2) Full alum. panels in engine compartment and fenderwells.  3) 9" ford rear end narrowed to correct width. 4) 3-link or IRS rear suspension. 5) Original wheel 90" base and correct body shape.
There are numerous options that make the build your own.  I have 6000 miles on my Hurricane and have not had any mechanical or design problems so far...just a lot of great compliments and plenty of fun.

Bill and Ken,
I simply second that!

I agree with all the above but something not mentioned is that the complete footbox is made from solid steel. This offers protection from road debris that few, if any, other kits offer. Definately look at the build threads and finished car threads. I researched Cobra replicas for over 15 years before I chose a Hurricane. I went to the Western States Cobra Bash last year in Reno and looked at hundreds of Cobras from every manufacturer out there (I was already finished building mine). I left that event knowing that I had made the correct choice.

I agree with all of the above, and I want to say it is a most awesome question... something really for us all to ponder.

The responses may better answer the question, "why DID you buy a Hurricane?"

The real questions NOW might be:

Do the listed answers to "why DID I buy a Hurricane" outweigh the new unknowns?

and more earnestly,

Who will be the first to buy a LLC Texas Hurricane and what discount will it take to get them to write the check?

and lastly,

How surly am I?
Is it eleven yet?   cause I'm sure ready to see the film.

Film at eleven........ :o
I would think that Hurricane would offer the first few new kits at a really good discount, and include a tour of the plant and pictures of their respective units being built.  This type of launch would go a long way in encouraging folks to again go with the Hurricane.  The positive feedback from new customers will go a long ways to promote the car.
Hopefully when the boys get it together they will produce something with additional refinements and improved quality of workmanship.  :)

Might be time for the "company" to have some ready stock for sale instead of asking someone to pony up for a deposit and then "wait" given the past few months.  I'm really hoping they come back strong with a hugely successful kit.
