Title: accessories/options
Post by: Joe Wicked on October 19, 2007, 12:30:05 PM
I did a search, but could not find what I was looking for.  I am just wondering if there is any cost advantage to ordering a kit with all the options/upgrades you want vs getting these items later.  Specifically, I am wondering about things like wind wings, wipers, and the like.  Obviously, if you wanted upgraded brakes it wouldn't make sense to not order it with the kit.

I've found that HM's prices are very comparable with other vendors and you save on shipping (and maybe sales tax) by ordering equipment through HM. For example, HM was charging the exact same price for the Vintage wheels as Vintage was on their website. So I ordered them from HM and saved the shipping charges and sales tax.

Basically, if the item is an upgrade (e.g. replaces another part), you are better off buying it at the time of purchase - otherwise you will have to pay full price for the item instead of the upgrade price. This includes items like brakes, adjustable coil overs, etc. Other items like wind wings, sunvisors, door pockets, etc. you can purchase any time for the price that is on the website. Some other items like the Aluminum firewall, heater, and wiper assembly are better off being purchased up front as they are much easier to install during the build. Hope that helps.

Thanks Rich, that is exactly what I was looking for.  Thanks also for the tip on the firewall, wipers and heater as they are all items that I want.  I am thinking about ordering "the bare minimum" to start and then as money permits, order the additional items, and get my driveline in order.  I just wanted to be sure that there wasn't a cost savings involved by getting everything at once. It doesn't look like there will be much though that is left to get after I get the items that make sense when I order the kit.

Joe,

With this kind of chatter, it sounds like it won't be long before you are placing your order.

John,
If I could order today, I would order today.  The only thing holding me back is getting the financial side in order.  I am just looking at different options and when I could order if I do different things.
