Title: TRANSMISSION CLEARANCE ISSUES
Post by: BIGDADDYFROG on August 21, 2007, 11:18:07 AM
Guy's I plan on putting a ZF 6 speed from a C4 vette tranny in my HM Cobra when I finally make the deal (I like the final ratios for crusing).I read that this tranny is a couple inches longer that the T56 and sets about 3 inches higher from the input shaft. With the wealth of knowledge in this fourm would somebody help guide me in this installation. Does the tunnel support the extra room needed? Yes, I will be building a Chevy powered Cobra  :P
Regards: BDF

P.S. I have the downpayment and waiting to sell the next Bowtie to finish the deal. I can't wait to enter

Well, BDF, I can't speak for those using Bowtie power in their Hurricanes, but I got to see HM1015 up close not long ago, and  I was AMAZED at the room between the bellhousing/transmission and the body tub--so much so that I even emailed Mike Arps to ask if the build might have been a large block tub with a small block powertrain.  I'm serious--if I were a betting man, I'd bet there is 9 or 10 inches clearance all around that transmission.  I'd be surprised if it wouldn't fit.

BDF

I have a TKO 600. Here are my clearances. Top of the main case - 1" and at the shifter mount - 1.5". Tailshaft housing - 2.5" on each side. Front of the main case - 4" each side, rear of the main case - 1".
I don't know how a ZF 6 speed and a TKO 600 compare size wise.

The clearances Doug is refering to are really only arond the bellhousing. When the cockpit tub tapers down to where the tranny is, there isn't all that much extra space -  as the Jim's dimensions indicate.

Once I read Jim's post I suspected as much, Matt.
