Are you asking if the rocker panel contour on the Hurricane matches the original?

QuoteAre you asking if the rocker panel contour on the Hurricane matches the original?  Looking at the Street Hurricane pictures it appears to be a little straighter from front to back than the originals which seem to have some compound curve in that area.  But, short of an original body it sure looks nice.

Dan

No, I'm not asking that.  I know it doesn't match the original and YES that body is sweet.  This will very likely be my next project.  I know it sounds stupid but it's the ONLY thing that bothers me about the look.  I know that's crazy but I guess we all have our ticks.  If I can't live with it, I'll fab the panel in.

CT is getting pretty tough on composite vehicle emissions so I'm trying to figure out what I would do for a mill.  I really want a Street HMS with a 392W carb but I don't think it will fly here in CT.  I'll move before I have to put an air pump on my Cobra.   >:(

Todd B?? Is that you?? I'm in the same boat. I'm more than ready to order but I'm waiting until more info on these new laws come out. No way a 427 FE with dual carbs is going to pass anything around here. I'd hate to build a car I could never legally register.

There is a thread on Club Cobra with some important info about the up coming hearing we should all attend. It's posted in the registration forum. We are trying to join forces with the another kit car club (4C's) who seems pretty up on the current events. Power in numbers brother please read it and invite anyone you can. It's also posted on the FFR site.

We've never met... I just know you from the FFcobra forum. I'm friends with Mike Zombar and Rob Dembosky. I think you know those guys.

Anyhoo the street car is my choice. I've been looking into some oval exhaust options from Dr Gas that might help on ground clearnace.

Glenn.

Hurricane seems to make mid-course corrections as they can, like moving the side louver location.  Maybe as they get a little time they will find a way to extend the rocker down as your illustration shows.   I don't see how it would hurt the side pipe car if it was extended there also.  At first I actually missed what you had done with Photoshop on your first post but I see it now.   :)

I don't think the mod would be that hard to do. I do like it though.

You've blown my cover.   :'(   Yup, I know Mike and Rob.

Thanks for heads up on PHP5790. If this doesn't pass, it will certainly impact my plans for the next project.  I sent a letter last night to my rep and will keep an eye out for any gatherings.  Let me know if you hear.

I hope my post isn't taken the wrong way.  Just another observation with respect to capturing the beauty of the car which they've done quite well. I'm very impressed with their response to these types of details and their progress.  I wish you well!

Your avatar gave you away. I've long admired the colors you chose and your car is top notch.

Yep if I hear anything further I'll keep you posted. Please do the same for me. I'm in contact with some of the other CT guys I know about this. We can use all the support we can get. I think there is a meeting being planned at a Backdraft dealer's in Wallingford to all organize together with a plan of action.

I don't think anything here has been taken the wrong way. The Hurricane guys are great with changes and new ideas for a better kit. And until you pointed it out I never really noticed the difference before. On the SC the pipes cover most of this up. But on the street it's right out in the open. I like the arched look better. Good call!

I've been studying this lower rocker panel issue on the Street Cobra a little more in trying to pinpoint what is different from the originals.

You're right, the lower skirt does roll under on the original car and there is a slight upward arc of the lower skirt when viewed from the side as well. The rear fender on the Hurricane is close to the original where it attaches to the body but the original is slightly different. Not enough for me to change on mine though.
Here's a photo of an orignal rear fender and you can see the lower skirt too:
