Title: Street Hurricane
Post by: Groundshaker on August 02, 2006, 12:19:04 PM
Any idea when info on the Street Roadster (vs the S/C Roadster) will be posted on the Hurricane site?

I have an interest in the street version of the roadster (which will comply better in my area's inspection process). Some of you don't mind the looks of heat shields on the s/c pipes (when required) but i flat out refuse to change the s/c look. So the street version with under chassis exhaust will be my choice of poison LOL.

My version will be minus the roll bar and hood scoop.I do want the full bumper/overrider assembly front and rear. I have been pondering the use of two of the hood louvers from a GT 500 for my hood near the corners close to the latches (to help remove heated air while stopped in traffic).

I will keep an eye peeled in this forum and hope to hear some good news for all of us who like the looks of a street 427.....:)

We have shipped a street version of our Hurricane 427 kit just as you are describing.  Under car exhaust, no hood scoop, no roll bar, street dash layout and the glove box.  We are waiting to make a "public" announcement until we get the one we are working on in house complete.  It will be painted this Saturday and we still have some assembly to do.   We will post more information as it becomes available.

I "think" (always dangerous) they are hoping to have it ready for the Good Guys show in K.C. on Sept 1,2,3.  But they're so darned busy down there...

In response to an email yesterday, Mike said they have it painted but the chassis is not all assembled yet.  He said they will have it together before long and post some photos on the forum as soon as it's complete.

Here is the answer Mike gave me when I asked that very question:

(Quote):
The wheels are steel rims and centers.

Mike that is SWEET!!  ;D Look forward to hearing all the details. I'm curious about the exhaust and headers and how they sound. Perfect timing for me too! Thanks for the pics. Like others I've been waiting for this and you sure did deliver a quality product as expected. Really nice job and I want one!!!

I have been researching the purchase of a Cobra replica kit for nearly two years now, and this is the first car I have seen that is EXACTLY the car I had envisioned.

Obviously, Mike, your vision of what a street Cobra should be is exactly the same as mine:
No stripes, no side pipes, under-car exhaust, no rollbar(s), glove box, bumpers.

Amazing.

Just to add something I've come across that sort of fits the street theme.... At www.carrollshelbywheels.com check out the CS66 wheels. They sort of resemble the old sunburst wheels but with modern bling. They are 18" rims and 8.5 and 9.5 width. I saw them in black on a new 07 GT350 conversion a Ford dealer here in Ga was doing. They looked good on the Stang but not certain how'd they look on the Cobra. Guess I'll find out as i'm pretty certain these are what i'll use in anthracite. Chrome was a little to shiney 8-) LOL The spinners are avialable too. I'm waiting for a quote from the local Ford dealer as they are also a Shelby distributor. I'm torn between these and the Vintage knockoffs. I do liike the sunburst style but not sure about the 18" rim size and how it will look. Has anyone used 8.5" rims in the front and know they will fit ok?? Thanks...

Hey I was thinking - ought ohh!!! If the center is fiberglass that is basically cosmetic, like a wheel cover, couldn't a different center be made to better replicate the sunburst wheel? It would be a good amount of work to make a mold but the look of the sunburst would be great for the street car. Maybe one of the custom wheel shops could turn out a sunburst center on a CNC machine and a mold could be made from that. Hmmm...........just kind of thinking out loud, but would something like that be possible?

Mike:

Any recollection on what size wheels/tires were on the Street car you photographed?

Dan,
The wheels on the car are 15" X 8" in the front and 15" X 10" in the back.  The tires are 255/60/15 in the front and 295/50/15 in the back.

You guys are doing a great job with these cars. As time goes on,i like the way you revised the side vents. I love the street version but,, the oil cooler and oil cooler scoop aren't street. The area between the front bumpers, below the air intake area for the radiator should more or less flow evenly with the rest of the front (instead of having the bulge area where the oil cooler scoop sits).Other than that,,this sucker looks like it is fresh off the boat from AC in the UK  :)
In time will this be eliminated? Or is it gonna stay as it is?  Thanks :)

Thanks for the nice comments on the street version.  We spent a lot of time researching the street version and many of the original 427 street cars did have the oil cooler.

Some original street 427's did come with an oil cooler scoop and some did not. I haven't been able to find out why some did and some didn't though. It may have to do with which series of chassis numbers but I don't know for sure.
Here's CSX 3111, which is an original street car and has an oil cooler.

I wonder if the 31XX series cars had them because originally, Shelby intended them to be comp cars? I'm not sure.
Ron on CC may know for sure. He's my source for info that I don't know.
