Title: Roll Bar Question
Post by: NathanH on September 13, 2006, 04:27:26 PM
I really like the look of the Hurricane body (looks a lot like an ERA or CSX) and I like the way the roll bar is exposed in the cockpit, but has anyone tried to replicate the angle of the rear brace to match the originals. The Hurricane looks like it drops off too much, and isn't as close to the cockpit area as a CSX or ERA. Have they thought of changing this? Here's some photos of what I'm talking about. It isn't that big a deal, but the Hurricane is so close to being dead nuts on to an original, it would be nice to be able to replicate the roll bar as well.

Here is a Shelby CSX4000

Here is an ERA

Here is a Hurricane (notice the roll bar brace doesn't go as far back. Also the roll bar as a whole is farther away from the back of the cockpit than either the CSX or ERA)

Nathan, you're right that the roll bar angle is off a little from original. Mike Arps and company from Hurricane are aware of it and have told me it's on their list of changes/improvements to make. THey've made several over the past few months and this may well be soon to come. When you look at where and how the roll bar mounts, it would not be a big change to make. In fact, a Hurricane owner just posted that he was going to make the change on his.
You might want to reach out to Mike Arps and ask when that change is planned to be implemented.

Matt,

Thanks for the info. Mike had mentioned in another message that I posted that they had fixed with front track length, and I read about them changing the location of the side vents, so I knew they were making steady changes to the car. Glad to hear that they have this on their list. It's funny how little things make such a difference. I'll try dropping an email to Mike to see when they have this planned.

I asked Mike the rollbar question in hopes the change would be made in time to affect the production of my car, HM 1066. He confirmed that they are in fact changing the placement of the bar to replicate the original cars. HM 1065 will be the first car with the new set up, mine will be second. Hats off to Hurricane to being so responsive to their current and prospective owers.

Yeah, I have never delt with any company so willing to change their product to meet their customers wants. With every car, there seems to be changes made to improve the model. It just blows me away!

I should probably clarify. I was speaking for an existing customer to change his rollbar tube and using another companies top.

We have not officially announced this yet, but it seems the cat snuck out of the bag so to speak.... For new customers, we will be offering the longer, original style rollbar standard on all of our kits very soon. And by soon, I mean that if you ordered today, your kit would arrive with the original style rollbar back tube. It is going into production this month. We had delayed the introduction of this feature to ensure that our new hard top and rollbar fit properly. There will be no charge for this new feature.

BTW - A hard top for the Hurricane 427 Roadster and 427 Street (more on that later...) will also be available soon, but not quite as soon as the original style roll bar  We don't have pricing for the hard top yet (just in case you were wondering). More information on this later.

Here's a quick mock up of what a Hurricane would look like with the upgraded roll bar brace.

Hmmm...  Since I'll be in primer for a while, I'm thinking I might just get a newer bar, re-weld the rear brace and move a hole.  That DOES look better.

Any pics of the full width roll bar?  I asked Hurricane about it and was told that it is an option.  Has anyone decided to go with it?  For the type of driving I would do, I probably don't even need one, but I like the look of the full width style.
Thanks,
Doug
