Looks great Phil!!  Glad the whole family is able to get involved.

I always enjoy looking at newer hurricanes.  It's nice to see Mike/Rich/Jason are always looking to take steps to improve.  There are always subtle things.

Man!  You're rollin!  I had a speed-build plan for when I picked mine up.  It's been over three weeks now and it's still in the trailer!  I can't believe how stupid-busy I am for a retired guy.

It's nice to see you having the kids involved in the build.  Keep the pix coming!

I have the Wife involved in the build also...But, she wont let me post any pics of her on the Internet...hahaha

I'm having a BIG party this Saturday as a kick off party for the Car. After that I'm taking the front and rear suspension off and painting the frame.

My goal is to have the car done by ThanksGiving 2007 so I can take it to Daytona for the Turkey Rod Run. Daytona is only 1hr South of me.

And Trust me, I will be posting allot of pics...

Everythings going great so far in the build processes. I've planned for this for over 6 months. With everyones help and information I was able to organize my-self and "My Garage" to make this build go smooth. What also is making things easy, is my son and I went thru the entire build manual and organized the parts in the order of the build. Does 2 things, helped me inventor all the parts and I'm not searching for a nut when I'm in the middle of something heavy/critical. I've set a them for this build and I't definatley "Organization". I'm not rushing this build at all, everythings just falling into place.

Phil,

That's a GREAT piece of advise.  Order the parts, nuts, bolts etc, by the respective steps in the manual.  I learned this about 1/2 way through and it made the build much smoother.  A little prep work in advance, pays off in the long run.

Cheers,

Motor
Jegs Aluminum Heads 58cc Combustion/170cc Intake runner, 2.02 intake and 1.60 exhaust valve
Jegs Roller Rockers
Z-303 Cam - 290 deg duration, .552 lift
Edelbrock 650 cfm manual chock carb.
Edelbrock Intake Manifold
Eagle Ford 347 Stroker Kit - 3.400" Stroke, 5.400 Rod, 4.030 Bore, -6.5cc Flat Top Piston, 10.7:1 Compression w/ 58cc head
Cloytes Timing chain
New Roller Tappets
New Push Rods
New Oil Pump
ETC...........

I'm Shooting for 400Hp. Its gonna be close. Only reason is that I went with a cheaper head vs the AFR's I originally calculated for. But, for $400 less the Jegs head spec'd out the same as the AFR. So, we will see.
This Motor was taken out of a 93 Mustang. My son and tore it down, and build the motor you see now. A HUGE milestone for myself. I've Never Built a motor before.

What is the width and the back spacing of your wheels ( front and back)?

Sid
Title: Re: 1044 Build Pics

Front
Rims: 17x8 Torque thrust II
Tires: 275/45/17 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-03

Rear
Rims : 17x11 Torque thrust II
Tires: 315/35/17 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-03
Has a 6" Back spacing
I had to get a 2" wheel adapter to keep the rim and tire from hitting the controll arm and the Coil over shock. Thats why in the above pic, the rear tire is not mounted. To prevent this you will probably need to get a rim with only a 4" or 4 1/2" backspacing.

Tire, Rims, Ballance, Valve stems, etc...Out the door at Discount Tire $2200

Looks Great Phil!!!  I'm interested to hear your thoughts on the fuel pump. I ran an Aeromotive Street/Strip and its very loud. I can hear it over the engine idle.  What kind did you end up with?

Thanks for the compliments. I ended up using a hard buffing wheel with Tripoli and then a soft wheel with Meguire's Aluminum Polish.  All available at Lowes or HD. Turned out pretty good overall.  Lots of work though. It probably took 8+ hrs in total.

As far as the fuel pump is concerned, I'm not gonna be much help there as far as performance and/or noise level. The Fuel system I'm using is from Summit. Fuel pump, Filter, Regulator, Hose connectors and Clamps all came in a kit.

Looks Great Phil!!!...  It's a great picture to help out everyone else too with regards to the pinion angle actually.  Nice side profile shot. I would believe this angle is too steep right now?  Am I correct?  Anyone have thoughts on this?

Not to bash or question the install at all Phil, there are just folks like me that can really benefit from a picture of the correct pinion angle. If this is it, then I need to adjust mine some I believe.    ;)

BTW My wife said the driveshaft I got was so small it was "cute"......   That encouraged me to fire the car up to prove that there was nothing "cute" about the car.  LOL  :-)

Ryan, and Phil,  I thought the same thing about the pinion angle, but thought maybe the suspension was un-sprung.

Ryan,  While I was gassing up, a Ford Excursion pulled up, and the late 40's male driver got out and said, "well that's a cute car".  I was surprised at myself for what I was thinking!  When his father, came around to look at it you could see the twinkle in his eyes, the ear to ear grin, and the nod of approval.  As he gazed into the engine bay, and without a single word from him, I knew what he was thinking, and forgot about the "cute car"!

I'm glad the Angle was brought up. I also thought it was steep.
Now,
The Rear end is sitting on jack stands. So, It is compressed
The Transmission is in the x-brace and bloted down.

The drive shaft spins fine. Plenty on clearance. Nothing binds up..Everything works together real well, and went together real well....
If the angle is wrong, What do I do to correct it? I dont see anywhere I can adjust...

Thanks for bring this up Ryan..

Hi Phil,
The upper link on your rear axle can be adjusted to rotate the front (pinion) of the rear end up or down to set the pinion angle. Make the link shorter to move the pinion down and longer to move it up. I think we discussed setting the pinion angle earlier in this thread. There are also several good explanations for setting the pinion angle on the internet. Just do a search for "pinion angle" and you'll come up with several ways to measure and set it. If you need any help, just hollar.

Hey Phil,
Just a thought here, but I was looking at your pics and it appears that the back of your transmission sits rather high. I don't have any pics of mine because I installed the engine after the body tub was in place. It looks like your using the t-5 transmission, so I don't know how it compares to the TKO600 etc. but looking at Alfredo's and Tom's build pics and from what I have seen on mine, it looks like our transmissions sit lower on the chassis than yours, making our drive shafts have a flatter angle. I don't know if this is the way t-5's are, the mount your using, or what, but it might be worth looking into before you make any big changes. It might be just the way it appears in the pics, so maybe its a non issue, but I thought I'd mention it.

My thoughts exactly. I also thought my trans was sitting High..
Yes, It is a T-5. and its a stock mount.
Here is a pic
Title: Re: 1044 Build Pics
Post by: 66rdster on June 30, 2006, 05:24:12 PM
Hi Phil,
The mount your using does look pretty tall compared to what I have. Mine is about 1/2 the height of yours, kind of like just the upper part thats bolts to the trans on the one you have. As far as I know the T-5 uses the same mount as the TKO600. You might want to confirm this with Mike Arps. If so, the mount to use is a stock replacement for a 1990 Mustang with a manual trans. The Pioneer part number from Adavance Auto is 622530 and sells for around $12.00 or so. Of course you could also use one of the aftermarket urethane mounts also. Just use the part number for a 1990 Mustang. I think this mount will get your trans lower and put the driveshaft in a flatter plane. Good Luck.

Mike
Title: Re: 1044 Build Pics
Post by: Phil Berania on June 30, 2006, 05:42:28 PM
Thats the exact mount I have. The T5 came from a '90 mustang and the mount in the pic is the one that was on the trans.
Title: Re: 1044 Build Pics
Post by: 66rdster on June 30, 2006, 08:01:04 PM
Hmmm. Thats interesting.
When I bought mine I went by what Mike A. told me and got the one for the 90 Mustang from Summit. Heres a pic of the Energy Suspension mount I'm using. Part number ENS-4-1104G for the 90' Mustang. It might be worth a trip to the local parts store just to get one for comparison purposes, even if you have to return it. Maybe they're the same height, but just look different. At least you'd be able to see if there actually is any difference in height. Or it could just be that the way the t-5 is designed it just looks higher, but actually isn't.

My intentions are not to send you on a wild goose chase over it. The height just happened to catch my eye and I wanted to make you aware of it in case there was a problem. I'm not sure that there really is, it just looks different than the others I've seen, but I thought it might be worth looking into. Its a lot easier to fix it now rather than later if it is an issue.

That mount does look very high I agree....  I have the one that Mike just posted (well the top piece, not the bottom, mine was one piece).

How did the engine fit in there?  Were there any adjustments that needed to be made to the engine mounts?  I ask because one might effect the other.

Do the 351 and 302 utilize the same motor mounts?
Title: Re: 1044 Build Pics
Post by: Phil Berania on July 02, 2006, 08:08:22 AM
From all the information I've gathered this should be the proper angle.
That is -2 degrees.

Ryan, I dont know if there is a diference or rather if the motor mounts the same or not. I got these motor mounts from Summit and they were for a 60's mustang. According to Mike A. my setup and mounts are fine. Your using a 351 with a TKO trans and I'm using a 302 with a T5 trans.

Hey Phil,
Looks like things are working out. I'm glad Mike chimed in about it. In the latest pic the driveshaft angle looks good. In that other pic it sure looked like it was at a steep angle. Maybe it was just the angle the pic was taken made it look that way. Anyway, I'm glad all is a-ok.

Title: Re: 1044 Build Pics
Post by: Tom on July 02, 2006, 01:40:47 PM
Hey Phil,

You need to measure the angle of the front mounting face of the differential and compare that angle to that of the transmission shaft.  Just measuring the driveshaft angle won't tell you anything.  What you're shooting for is for the pinion to be angled down a few degrees when compared the the angle of the slip yoke.  I don't know if my words are making any sense, but the driveshaft angle will change with suspension movement.  The pinion angle will change with torque application.  THAT's the angle you need to be concerned with.

That's great Phil, congrats!
Ryan has hosted a couple on his site in the past. You could also post it on one of the photo hosting sites. I think photobucket.com hosts video's now. Then just post a link.

By the way Phil, you probably didn't receive it but I tried to PM you about a bike in FL I was looking at. All worked out for the best as it turned out to be a total scam and I didn't send any money. Good thing for me!

Phil, That had to be the greatest feeling ever. You are so far ahead of some of us and doing a very nice job. It is so nice to see your family envolved.  Just to give a heads up on what I heard, You have may have header leak on at least one side and also a loose rocker arm. The clutch also may need to be bled or adjusted so it doesn't grind as it did.

In fact I just got done adjusting the valves tonight. I'll adjust the clutch tomorrow, and I'm taking off the exhaust to get Ceramic Coated this week-end.

Apparently I ddnt set up the Valve Train correctly.
Remember this is my first time building an Engine, so be gentle on me

When I set up the Roller Rockers, all I did was go to each rocker and snug it down untill the push rod had no play in it and then gave it a Half Turn. I went down the entire valve train and set each Rocker the same way...Apparently thats WRONG.

Apparently I'm supposed to do it in some "Secrete Squirel Code" sequence that I was not aware of. Can someone please explaine to me the proper sequence....And Please try to expaine it as if you were talking to a 10 year old kid.

This is why my valve train is tapping its rear end off.....

Help me please

Phil

Phil
You are partially correct.

From the internet:

Pick a cylinder.
Bump the motor until the Exhaust valve starts up. Intake is now on base circle.
Loosen the intake lock nut.
WAIT a minute or so, to let the plunger relax.
Twirl intake pushrod between thumb and forefinger (hold gently) and tighten the lock nut until you feel the pushrod stop turning. A little practice is all it takes. You will know - it stops right away, unless you are turning it with pliers. This is zero lash.
Tighten locknut 1/2~3/4 turn.
Bump the motor until the Intake is almost down. Exhaust is now on base circle.
Loosen the exhaust lock nut.
WAIT a minute or so, to let the plunger relax.
Twirl exhaust pushrod between thumb and forefinger (hold gently) , etc...
Tighten locknut 1/2~3/4 turn.
Repeat as necessary.
If you go 1 cylinder at a time, you won't screw up or get confused or need a checklist. There IS a faster way - use it between rounds at the races, or to save time on the dyno. You have the time, go slow and you won't have to second guess after you put the valve covers on.

It's really a matter of opinion on ride height and stance. Personally, I like the rear tire to be up inside the fender slightly and I think it looks best that way.
But it's only my opinion of course and what you think looks good is the best.
Here's an example of the stance I like:

Ok Guys,
I've "attempted" the body work. I set all the gaps for my doors, I stopped there because the body work there scares me.
I sanded 90% of the car down. Now I'm working on the Trunk Lid. After a few days of trying to get it linned up, I began the body work. I had to fill the entire gap at the top of the trunk lid to get it straight with the body line and then cut the gap to open the trunk.
I'm posting these pic to get ALLOT of comments, possitive or negative, on the way I'm going about my body work.
I do have a question...How are you all able to get such a nice edge on your panels ( Doors, Trunk and Hood )?..where the 2 peices of fiberglass meet at the edge.

It's a lot of work isn't it Phil?  Those are my thoughts when I got to where you are......  Never the less, you are most certainly on the right track.  Try not to go too far through the gel coat and into the fiberglass if you can prevent it.

With regards to the swinging panels and making them smooth. I ran some tape along the edge to create kind of a damm, then filled with Fiberglass Jelly.  Sanded down to a nice edge, and added some bondo to get it perfect.

I hate to break it to you, but you've got more sanding to go... :-) I'd reccomend utilizing a block to sand down the remaining "shine" off the gel coat.  That ALL needs to be gone before you shoot the primer as nothing will stick to it (long term atleast). Using a block now will make the blocking later easier.

It's looking good so far! Keep up the good work.  I can't wait to see it when I'm in Jax for Thanksgiving.  I want a ride in it too :-)

Cheers,

Phil, for me was very important to determine the exacts points to fix the body to the frame, doing this you will be sure that when you move the body and put it again, your adjustments on the gaps will be the same.
Another thing that I did is to sand with careful the upper part of the front fenders because there was to much waves in the gelcoat.
I like the wheels and tires , it looks very aggressive.

You are doing a great work !!!!

Listen to Alfredo.  I had everything gapped to a nice 3/6" before teardown.  I spent the better part of three hours today trying to get my trunk lid lined up again.  It's STILL not right!  Obviously a bit of screwing around will get it back in place, but I sure wish I would have been more careful in marking and attaching things before I took it apart.

Hey Phil
Not much to add to what has already been said. I notice that all the bright-work has been fitted and that's good, but it should be taken off so as not to scratch it IMO. I would also remove the hood scoop for both prep and final paint. Then re-attach after the paint is finished.
Looking really good!

Thanks Guys,

Thank you for the great comments. I know I have allot more sanding to do. I started with the doors and worked to the trunk. I havent touched the hood only to knock down the gell coat.
The lower part of the car you see not sanded down yet is because I have a bit of a bad back and its difficult to get that low and sand for much time. I'm thinking of getting the lower have when I get all the panels gapped and linned up so I get the body off the car and get it in the air to see what I'm sanding.

My goal is to have the car DONE by Christmas.
Well, I say Done, It will never ever be DONE. ;D

Hi Phil,
I've got a back that complains a lot when I have to work down low (years of motocross) and this was what I did as there aren't any ready made ramps for sale here.   I used 2" x 4" and some 2" x 6" and a lot of bolts, 6 penny nails and glue to build a ramp system that fits in my  garage, (sorry, I'm still working on a Hurricane purchase) and this is what I came up with.  Its hard wood, not pine or other soft woods so it supports the car ok.  I do put an extra support under the mid section when I drive up.  Ramps are wider than a 285 tire and can be separated or moved together.  Ramp is approximately 18" high.  It unbolts so I can sorta stack it up when not in use.  I do put wheel chocks under the wheels when it sits there.  Had just driven it up before I took the shot.  This is a good height to do most body work other than the top side.  For you guys Stateside, a Kwiklift would be great.  www.kwiklift.com   a lot more secure than my rig.  Beware of some of the knock off types though.
Ken

Hey Ken,
Thanks for the Back Relieving message and Pic. That would definatley make it easier to get to the lower section of the car.
The body work has been a very, very slow process for me. I just want it right.
Its comming along. I have all the panels lined up and all the gaps set. I'm presently working on the doors which seems to be the difficult of the 4 panels.
I lost motivation for a few weeks. I went to the Turkey Rod Run in Daytona last weekend and it started the juices rolling again.
There were allot of kits there. Backdraft, StreetBeast, FFR etc. I'm gonna talk to Mike Arps and see if he may be interested in a booth down here. I actually was asked to leave the Streetbeast booth because I was talking to someone about the Hurricane kit and the difference between the two. That was FUN!!!!!! ;D

Hey Ryan,
As you may know, I'm an Electrical Superintendent (Electrician). I used 1 1/4" Electrical EMT Conduit, Factory 90's, Couplins, Connectors, Uni-Strut and Strut Straps. I aslo welded Couplins to casters in order to roll the entire stucture with ease. Building it only took 30 Min.
My first body buck was made of wood and was set outside for a few months and when I took the body off it to set on the Frame, it almost fell apart. My new body buck is made of galvinized steel conduit, should last me awhile.
If anyone is interested in the "Nuts and Bolts" of the metal body buck, I can make up a materials list and the exact cuts and placement of the conduits. Just let me know.

I also started turning my garage into a Paint Booth. I have 14 - 2 lamp 4' Flourecent Fixtures, I'm gonna encover the garage with Clear Plastic to create a "Clean" Room. I'll have two fans supplying ventalation and two fans pulling the fumes out.

I have a 60 gallon compressor with two filters for moister and trash.

I'm hoping to shoot the primer next week. I'm gonna to a test job on an old hood a friend of mine has this week.

Nice garage Phil!
On the gun, see what nozzle size is reccomended for each process. (primer, sealer, base, color, clear etc.)
I have a couple different guns that I use for the different stages but changing the nozzle would also work.
Might be written on the can.

Hey Phil,
Sounds like your on the right track. Good lighting is a must for painting. Looks like you have that covered. The practice hood is a good idea. Also, like Larry said, check what tip size is required for the product your spraying. Usually a 1.3 or 1.4 is fine for everything except maybe the primer. Depending on the primer used, if its high build, might require a 1.7 - 2.2 tip.

And the main thing. Don't forget the safety aspect of it. Use a good respirator or fresh air mask like the Hobby Air unit. Change the respirator cartridges often. I used a new set each time I fired up the spray gun. Maybe a bit of over kill but I'd rather be sure I'm getting good air. Another item is, get some of those disposable paint suits, gloves, goggles etc.

I just got through painting my car also. I'm a novice when it comes to painting, but if you have any questions, let me know. I'd be glad to pass a long what I've learned.

Just a side note on the Hobbyair system.  I bought the full hood and wish I hadn't.  The glare from inside the hood is so bad I can barely see what I'm doing.  I used it through the primer process but will be buying the regular half facemask before shooting color.

Looks like you are headed on the right track..

BTW.  I'm no expert by any means, but I was very involved in the painting of my car (painters probably wish I wasn't), but I learned that one of those $25 air repirators (3m Dual cartridge) style work fine for primer/sealer/paint. However the painters said you have to use some sort of fresh air full face mask/helmet type thing for the clear coat as the fumes are really dangerous.  He had a full face helmet deal that hooked into the airline to provide fresh air.  Just an FYI on what I've heard, don't want anyone getting ill over all this.

Cheers,

Ok,
I painted the test hood this week-end. Everything went really GREAT untill I painted the Kandy. I learned I must have patients and the temperature is a HUGHE factor. Saturday was 70 deg, I painted the primer, the White Base for the stripes, taped the stripes and then layed the Gamma Gold Base. Sunday on the other hand was 60 deg and I "KNEW" it was too cold and I painted the Majestic Kandy Blue anyway. It ran really bad. I used a medium reducer (70 to 80 deg), one problem. The other I learned is I layed the Kandy way too fast. PATIENTS >:(PATIENTS :(PATIENTS :'(..This I will have to learn.
Let me know what you all think and any help and suggestions would be great.
Over-all Not TOOO bad for my first time EVER painting.

It actually looks pretty good Phil for someone still learning. I've professional paint jobs that were much worse. Some where it looked like it applied with a damp sock! ;D
Both temp and humidity play a big role. Like you said, the temp was too cold for that reducer.
Just keep practicing and be patient. You're miles a head of most novice painters.

Looks Good Phil!  Glad your priming and painting test are coming a long.  It's nice to see the panels/car all one color again :-)

Did you get a chance to shoot the body?  How did that come out?

BTW if you have any pinholes show up, my painter mentioned just taking a detail brush and dabbing some primer in those "Small" holes. Fills them nicey and sands down smooth. Easier than mixing and sanding filler/glaze.

Cheers,

Hey, thanks Ryan on the tip to fill small pinholes. I do have them..and like you said, I was gonna use Glazing Putty to fill them.

No, Didnt shoot the Body yet. Still have a little work to do there. I plan on shooting the Hood and the Trunk Lid tommorow evening...Temperature pending.

Hey Phil,
Looks like the hood came out pretty good. With a little practice you'll be a pro. Actually what you did, practicing on the old hood, is a good idea. Lets you get a feel for everything.

Here's another tip for pinholes I learned from an older gentleman that restores Vettes for a living. You will see most of the pinholes appear as your spraying your primer. On the first coat, if you see one, just rub it with your finger. It will fill the pinhole with primer. Yep, it will have a bit of a bad place in the primer but your gonna sand it anyway. I did this on the first coat and and didn't have a single one after that and never had to use the glazing putty.

Your doing a great job. I can't wait to see the end result. Its gonna look great.

Mike

The Car is in "Primer" 8-)

Other that a few pin holes here and there it looks pretty good.

Did the finger wipeing trick during primer as you suggested Mike...Worked well...I went ahead and wiped a little glazing putty here and there the make sure thing go well when I Block and Sand.

Dang Phil, thats not the news I wanted to hear. I'm sorry you ran into problems. We all have these kinds of things happen to us sometime or another. About all we can do is learn from our mishaps and go on.

I emailed a guy I know about what he thought was the best way to prep your car for paint again. This guy is a pro painter and is very familiar with HOK products. Here's what he recommends. Take this advise for what its worth. I can't say this is the best or only way to handle your situation but it seems pretty sound to me.

"there is probably alot of material on the car and it should be taken down to primer, shoot sealer then base/clear but thats alot of sanding. obviously the best way is sanding down to primer but if it were my car i would feel just fine with blocking the whole car flat with 400gr. once its flat he is going to want to shoot a coat or 2 of sealer then base/clear. the sealer is a must since the candy dye can soak up into the new base he will be spraying altering the color. its a little late now but your friend would have had much better luck shooting the kbc line or mixing the straight dye into an intercoat clear or clear base and spraying that way. when spraying candy as a base you dont have to worry about runs, streaks or anything like that, just blotching."

Anyway, I hope that at least gives you some ideas. Good luck. Keep us posted on the progress.

Mike

Hey Mike,
Thanks for the advise.
Sanding it down to primer is very unlikely. But, as you said, I am going to sand it down to flat, shoot sealer then base/clear.
In your post you talk as if my friend was painting the car...Nope, I'm all to blame...I painted every inch of it....my friend is there for technical support.
The New paint and sealer has been odered..I'll be sanding for a few days...I'll shoot it when the paint and sealer arrive and keep you all posted.

Wow, Phil.  What a sick to the stomach feeling that must have been to see all your hard work going awry.  My feeling though has always been that by doing it your self, you can afford to do it wrong several times and when you get it right you've still saved $$$ and have gained valuable experience.

Keep us posted on the results.

Hey Tom,
Your right, in both aspects. I'm sick to my stomach that the paint went wrong. But, as my friend said, I picked the HARDEST paint to paint for a first timer.
When this car is done I have allot of conversation I can bring up and I can trully say that I did "EVERYTHING" on the car...From the Motor to the Paint, the good things and the bad things and that I can hold my head up high.
It's all GOOD 8-) 8-), Live and LEARN :).
I wouldnt trade the experience in building this car with my Dad and my Son with anything in the world.

HaHa, hey Phil, I didn't even know you had a friend standing by for technical support. The part of my post your thinking of is a quote from the guy I talked to. I think when he was refering to "your friend" he was speaking of you. HaHa.

Anyway, I'm glad you have a good attitude about it. Its all about learning, and like you said, you can take pride in saying that you did everything yourself. Keep us posted on your progress. I'm sure its gonna turn out great.

Hey Phil
I'm so sorry about what happened but it's a learning experience.
I wonder if you're laying it on too heavy. Being as that it orange peels AND runs, it sounds to 'heavy', like gun adjustment.
I'm not sure and sure no expert by anyones imagination but I'd play around a little with gun adjustment.
Just a thought.

It is probably a combination of gun adjustment and the temp. of reducer/thinner being used. You definately picked a hard color for your first try.

Title: Re: 1044 Build Pics

I thought Candies were the hardest to spray too, but wasn't sure where I heard that.  Regardless, you have a really nice looking car.  Just by getting some color on there you are probably able to see how everything lines up and will look once finished.  Sanding it won't be fun, but it sounds like you've got it all under control.  Hopefully it goes smoother this time around...

Keep up the great work!!

Cheers,

Looks good.  My thoughts on "Imperfections?"  Some will say it's a cop-out, but I don't mind minor imperfections in ANY car.  Every car I've ever owned has been there for me to DRIVE.  Every car I've ever driven has gotten dings, chips, scratches, etc.  Heck, I've bought some brand-new cars that have come with paint blemishes.  I can't see spending a major portion of my life making the finish absolutely perfect, only to cry when it takes it's first chip.  Heck, 1042 is still in epoxy primer.  I trailered it out to NM and when I unloaded it I noticed it had a paint chip on the front of one of the rear fenders.  And that's with ZERO miles on it!  Imagine me crying my eyes out had I just spent weeks on that perfect paint job.

Anyway... speech-mode off.  I think you've done a GREAT job on your car.  Even screwing up the candy base gave you good experience.  You're now officially one more step ahead of a lot of us.  you should feel great about your work!

Well, Ryan asked whats next???
I'm waiting on my Headers and Side Pipes to get back from being Ceramic Coated....Better be this Week >:(...
Bolt the Exhaust back up... Run the car in Go-cart stage a few laps around the sub-division to work out a final details like the brakes, etc...
Put the body on the car, mount all the Lights, widshield, etc... Then Carpet the Interior....

I got the kit May 6, 2006 and I should be done with it around the EXACT same time, May 2007. I took 2 months off from the Build in November and December for the Holiday's. So Technically, I have 10 Months in the entire Build.

Thanks for letting me use the buck and congrats on a good build. I'm sure we'll be talking soon (when I get to the wiring stage for sure)

Thanks Dan,
My sons eyes may have Lit up but, I saw my insurance bill go to the moon. Remember the comment I made about him taking the Cobra to his Prom...he asked me later.."Why would I want to take the Cobra to my prom??...I want to go in a Limo"...He will learn, he's got a couple more years to realize the difference.

Also, I found the winning noise..Its my Alternator...I hope I'm not running into problems with that again. If so I may end up changing the one wire alternator.

Wow Phil, that looks fantastic! Those family projects are the best there is. My father and brother both help on my car, although sometimes it's like watching an episode of American Chopper with the yelling, screaming and swearing! ;D
It's all good though.

ITS LEGAL ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I got the car registered today. I was actually painless. Paid my Tax, Tag and Tiltle fees, had to fill out a minor affidavit that the vehicle was road worthy. Yes, they had me fill out the form that the vehicle was road worthy.
And, I got an antique tag.... 8-) 8-)

Phil

Must feel good to be "street legal". Congrats on the registration.
Curious though, does the antique plates limit your annual miles in any way.
Some states provide collectable or antique registration but limit miles to 2500 per year.

Hey Bob,
There was nothing said and/or documented that I had limited mile's for having an antique tag. I'll have to look into that just to be sure.

Hey Guys,
I wasnt going to install fresh air vents but, after driving the car around in the Hot Florida Sun, It really felt like my feet were going to melt.
So I started the install of some fresh air vents.
Local Boat store (West Marine) - (2) 4" Blowers @ $32 each
Lowes - (2) 4"x 10' Dryer vent hose @ $10 each
My feet not being on Fire when I drive the car.....PRICELESS ;D ;D

Here are a few pics of the install so far.
I ordered the Front air ducts from Finish line, they should arrive in the next couple of days. Then I will finish the Hose to the front of the car.

Believe me, Its almost like air conditioning on the feet with these motors blowing on them. I would "DEFINATLEY" consider this in your build.

Phil, you went with 4" blowers and hose?  That should move quite a bit of air compared to the 3" versions most are using!
Hey, if you hook up a switch to run reverse the blowers, you'd be able to vacum your interior real quick!

Phil,

I agree with the idea to install blowers.  I have been very pleased with the air cooling we get from the 3" blowers.  No doubt you will notice a big differenct too.

Chris

Hey there Guys,
I know its been some time but, here are some updated pic of the car.
I installed the "temporary" carpet (Budget reasons).
I've been Driving the "Holly Heck" out of it.
I've been tweeking it here and there to get the ride right.

I'm probably with-in a week of calling it done...For now ;)
It will never be 100 perc. done.

Also, I took the car up to the local "HOOTERS" and practically emptied the place. My wife would not let me take any pics with any of the "Ladies" 8-). I have to go up there without her one day and get some pics and post them. ;D

Thanks for the compliments on the car.

Slithern, you sure can ask who did my paint job because, I did. I painted the car in my Garage. If you look back at some of my build post's you will see my ups and downs on my Paint. The paint is House of Kolors Stratto Blue.

Hey Guys,
I know its been a long time sence I've posted anything. I do check on the site every once in awhile just to see all the builds going on.
Well, I'm doing some re-work on the car. New Paint job (Professional this time), Side pipe covers, Glove Box, NOS...yes, NOS...and a few things I wanted to change after getting car together and realizing I should have done. Here are some pics of what I'm doing.
The New Color of the car is gonna be "Candy Fire Orange" with "Silver" Stripes....It was actually my first choice of Color in the beginning of my build but I painted the car Blue after my wifes favorite color.
Hope you enjoy the pics....

It looks like you have a plastic or aluminum cover over the cowl area? is this functional or just a temporary piece while you have the body off?

Hey Paul,
The shhet metal over the Cowl is permanent. My plan is to Insulate the entire Cowl and down to the side of the foot wells. I didnt want the insulation to fall thru or sag thru the dash board so I installed some sheet metal. Also you can see where I've installed the sheet metal on each sude of the foot wells where I'va aslo installed a set of speakers. My plan is to insulate all that area also.

do you have any photos of the setup?

Hey Paul,
My "Paint Booth" is made out 1 1/4" Electrical EMT conduit. I'm an Electrician so I bent all the conduit up the sizes I needed for the booth and connected it all together with EMT fittings Then wrapped everything with VisQueen.
