This is but one of many "firsts" you'll remember fondly.

First start, first drive, first burn-out, first time pulled over (hopefully no ticket). Welcome to the restless nights and the insanity.

My son built a body buck for me from Paul P's instructions from his build site.
Hope it is right. We decided to make it shorter in height so the body could be worked on more easily.

Guys,
Here is how I intend on blocking the previous filler tube hole.  Would like to hear comments about it.

Of course I will permatex the gasket to seal it but it just made sense to me to bring the bolts from the inside and the nuts on the outside.  The pic's of other guys tanks show's the bolts from the ouside of the plate and to me I just couldn't see how they did that without using another hole in the tank to get to the bracket to hold it in place.

I'm sure that will work fine. Tanks Inc. has a new type of gasket and screws that have nylon washers that will be available soon. It's a little tricky to use the bolts and hold everything together but it's not too difficult. Also, be sure to use Permatex Moto-seal, not the aviation sealer.

Jim,
Thanks for the reply, I was sure it would work too.  Also already bought the Motoseal.

On this pic I haven't made my heat shield for the Master Cylinders yet. If anyone wants to know what I covered my brake lines with it's thermal sleeving.  Withstands 1200 degree's continuous, 2000 degree's peak.  From www.heatshieldproducts.com

In this pic I tried to show the how the link/bolt hooked up to the shock mount tube.  I cut off 7/8 inches off the tube in back of the shock, some may not have to take that much off depending on the sway bar they install. I also installed some hard washers supplied with the sway bar on both sides of the link/bolt.  I then hooked up the sway bar, I used hole number three which will supply 180 Lbs/Inch minus 20% I believe.  Check Scott Risseeuw's post from an earlier post and get the right spec.'s

Ron

Now that's the version I've been waiting for . . . the no-weld version. Did the unit come complete with heims and all mounting hardware? Part numbers and price(s) would be great.Very nice!
Matt

Just went to their website. The cost is $399 complete. Is this the same one they sell for FFR?

Matt,
All the stuff comes with the sway bar.  I payed $325.00 for the bar and $20.00 freight. Total $345.00
I had to wait awhile for it to be manufactured, seems Craig Mapstone has them made by a guy in Florida.  Craig can give you a better idea if you call him @ 585-586-1928.  I also had the bar powdercoated by a guy here locally and I powdercoated the brackets for the bushings here at my shop. I hope this gives some guys a bettter look at the install.  It only took me about a couple of hours to do cause I had to go to Lowes for some grade eight bolts and stuff.  by the way I used 3 inch grade eight bolts and nylock nuts plus I put a little bit of lock tight (blue ) on top of the nuts after tightening them down.

Regards,
Ron

Hey Ron,

Very nice install! I am contemplating putting one in also.

A Question: Does the Sway Bar interfere at all with the steering? It looks from the photo the the tire might rub at full lock.

Regards,

Evan

I paid $300 plus $25 freight back in June of '07. Looks like they raised their prices slightly, but still a very good easy install.

Talk to Craig at VPM, tell him you have a Hurricane and don't need the brackets.  The only thing you need to supply will be the 3" bolts for the bushing brackets and the washers and nuts for them. All you need to do is cut off 5/8" from the back of the shock mount and drill the holes for the bushing clamps.

Evan,
Mine doesn't interfere at all with the steering.

More details in my build thread.

Ron you did  great job on your car and I just love the yellow and black combo.   Yellow is a tuff color to get the right shade...and you did it perfect.  Can't wait to see some pics after it's all complete, have fun finishing it off.  ;)

Ron, if it's a gasket leak on your tank...make a good paper or cork gasket and use "Seal-All gas/oil" Auto Zone.  It has so far out performed everything I've tried.   ;)

Thanks Bill for the info on the seal-all I will try it.  I just wanted to pass VIN inspection before I take the fuel tank out and repair it. I just had my VIN inspection today and passed with flying colors. The state trooper did say that it was alittle loud and he might not pass it but I waited him out and towards the end he said he'd go ahead and pass it.  I just think he wanted to see me sweat some.  I told him alot of Hurricanes are on the road across the country and I've never heard of one that didn't pass because it was too loud.  Heck Harley's are loud. He couldn't argue.  Now its just wait for the paper work to go thru the system and then they will contact me when its time to attach the VIN number on the car.  Then reg. and license and plates and on the road I go. Now I can really sleep tonight.

Regards,
Ron

Ron, it sure does look nice.  I've got the same tires and had wondered which way to mount them, like this look.  I bought the Hurricane wheels and now am not so sure about using them with the plastic inserts, may buy the little plastic imitation bolts that were original on the wheels and run them bare like that.  Post some finished shots when you get the cockpit and trunk done.

Guys,
I finally got my VIN number installed on my car by the State Patrol this morning, so I promptly went to the DMV and got my reg. and lic. plates and my son and I spent the rest of the afternoon driving it up and down the hiway in front of my business. Needless to say there were two guys with great big grins on their faces all afternoon. It's fast and handles real good. When I got out of the car my adreline was flowing and I was shaking alittle. Hay Jim, you were right, one of those moments you'll never forget.

Regards,
Ron
