Hey Everyone,
I finally had some spare time so I wanted to post a few of my build pictures. I have learned a lot of great tips from all the other great builders on the site. I am very appreciative.
I buckled down the last couple of weeks and got all the panels and chrome trim installed. This allowed me to get my tag for it and take it for it's maiden voyage to a local car show(in the gel coat with no carpet ;D ). I got quite a bit of attention in the parking lot I must say. It was a proud moment as I reflected over the past year of work. I must say though I am most proud of the motor(my first build). I built it myself and it runs like a scalded dog and has a really radical idle(Lunati hydraulic roller) :). I have a permanant grin on my face! Hopefully it will be in the paint shop next week. Thats the only thing I didn't want to do cause I am running out of patience. I want it finished NOW. LOL
Thanks to the brotherhood for all the help and willingness to share!
Michael

Michael,
Car looks great. You've done an outstanding job putting it together. That engine looks like it's going to be scary fun to drive.
Must've been really fun to take to a show after getting it "legal".
Got any video of it running?
Dan
Thanks Dan.
I must admit...it is the fastest thing I have ever driven. Scary fun is definitely the right term!
It was a lot of fun going to the show unfinished. Just the sound of it idling was enough to get attention. It hits pretty hard. I have a couple of videos of it running. Didn't know where to post it though.
Michael
You can post it to something like You Tube and just post the link on this thread. I believe You Tube is free to join and upload videos.
Can't wait to here it..... 8-)
Mike,
Looks great! I'm sure it was a blast to drive at the show. I'm assuming the registration process went smoothly :-). Feel free to send me the video cassidyr@charter.net and I'll upload it/host it NP.
Any idea on when the painters will have it finished?
Cheers,
Looking good Michael!
Soon you'll be waking the neighbors up and learning all the latest swear words ;D!!
Larry
Nice job Michael!!!!
She looks great. Sounds like you've been having a little fun with it already. It must be a blast to drive. I'll bet you can't wait to get the paint on it. Post some pics when you do.
Again, you've done a fantastic job and it looks great.
Mike
Thanks for all the kind words everybody. It was a blast this past weekend to drive. Mike Arps called me crazy when I told him I took it to 90mph Sunday on the highway! :o Smooooth as glass! Of course in hindsight...I DID build this car myself......and I never claimed to be the sharpest pencil in the stack! ;D
Had to have a little fun before I put it in the paint shop next week!
Ryan,
thanks for the advice. Registration was a breeze. When I told a FFR owner at the show his jaw dropped. He went the other route with inspections, taxes, etc. I just grinned.
I'll send you my little video clip of it idling.
Michael
Mike,
Damn, that sounds sweet.
Jim
Thanks so much Ryan for hosting it.
I just talked to the paint shop and it goes in Monday!!!! He said 4 weeks.
Ofcourse I don't have a color nailed down yet. I want to go with a Superformance color silver with ghost stripes a few shades darker or black with charcoal stripes. Being in the south I am worried about the black making it hotter than will already be in the summer. But it would look slick!
Michael
Mike sent me a new updated and longer video. Deleted the old one.. Please use this one.

Larry
Thanks Larry.
Also, thanks Ryan for hosting it.
Michael

Really nice Michael! Can't get over how fast your work is! Maybe I should send you my car.
Larry
Mike,
Wow You make quick progress. It's coming along very nicely!!
I'm also glad to see you posting. I was going to e-mail you today and see if everything was alright from the storms we had on Thurs. Several Tornado's down your way. Glad to see everything is ok!
BTW we need to get you a 1965 GA tag :-)
Cheers,
Hey Micahel,
Your engine sounds great!!!! Nice rumble to it.
Everything looks great, you've done an excellent job. I'll bet you can't wait to get the paint on her. Post some pics when you do.
Mike
I got a burst of energy to get me across the finish line when I got my tag in my hand! LOL
I hate to give it up for a month now....driving it has been so fun. I plan to document the bodywork and paint process. The bodyshop guy is real cool. Looking at the 2007 Mazda Sunbburst Silver as the base color.
Ryan....you would not believe the damage here. I got caught in the tornado in my truck. The body shop will have my cobra and my truck this week. Lots of damage. Blew out all the glass, pitted my wheels and dented the driver side of my truck from one end to the other. Had shingles in my back seat!!!! But I am alive so no complaints. Below are a couple om pics of my truck.

Wow Michael, glad you're OK. Mother Nature sure can be a biatch sometimes.
I think you need to nickname your truck "tornado" Then you can have a Hurricane and Tornado...... ;D ;D ;D
Dan
WOW!!!! I'm glad you are ok, Some of the pictures I've seen are just amazing!!
Cheers,
I come from KS, the land of tornados ("We're not in Kansas anymore, Toto"), so I know how quicky they can hit and the damage they can do.
I'm so glad you escaped injury. The truck can be replaced or repaired, but you sure want to be in good shape to enjoy that roadster once it comes back from the paint shop!
They say lightning doesn't strike the same place twice. Here's hoping that's true about tornados, too--if so, you can relax now.
Doug
Geez Michael, so sorry to hear what happened. At least eveyone that's important is OK. Everything else can be repaired.
Larry
Glad all is well with you and your family. Good luck on the paint on your hurricane. Darren
Thanks for all the well wishes guys. I really appreciate the sentiment. I am definitely doing something right to escape unharmed.
There won't be any repairs though. Truck is totalled. Estimate was 10K. Looks like I am off to buy a new truck this week too. Geeeeez!!! Like I have time for that....I gotta pick a color for gods sake!!!!
Gotta have priorities! ;D
Thanks again,
Michael
oh yea....my wife and her friends call me Dorothy now!!!!(as in the wizard of oz) ;D
Michael, I enjoyed the pics. Great job! I have been surfing the build pics and owners forum while I await delivery of my car. I notice you have used cool flex, or similar product, for the coolant hoses. I was thinking of doing the same, but have not decided yet. I have visited Mike (66rdster) several times and noticed that there isn't much room between the bottom radiator outlet and the steering rack. How were you able to make the sharp 90 degree turn and clear the steering rack? It just didn't look like there was enough room. Also, where did you get your filler neck? My car will ship this Thurs., so I'll get to start experiencing all the fun you guys have been having.
Regards, Sam
Hey Sam, Check out this thread, it might answer some of you questions on the hoses.
http://forum.hurricane-motorsports.com/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1143512171/13#13
Thanks for the thread. I'll have to study this more and I'm sure it will make more sense once I get the car and get to that point. Just a lot to think about while waiting.
Sam
Sam,
I got the filler neck from summit or jegs one. The cool flex worked really easy. I bought a 4ft section and it was the perfect length to do everything with no waste.
Michael
Michael, thanks. My main concern was that I wouldn't be able to get the billet clamp cover on the bottom radiator outlet and then make the sharp 90 degree turn to clear the steering rack. I guess I was thinking the cool flex might would crimp while trying to make the 90 degree turn. Also, sorry to see and hear about the storm damage. Glad nobody was hurt. "Things" can be replaced.
Sam
It was tight but no problem. I will see if I hav e a picture of the bend at the bottom.
Michael
OK. Thanks. That would be helpful.
Sam
Here ya go. Sorry for the delay.
Michael, thanks. This clears it up. I had pictured this differently in my mind. Thanks again.
Sam
Not a problem. Glad to help.
Michael
On the home stretch!

I know it's been a while but it's finally primed and wetsanded!!!
Ready for some paint!
3 coats of black before final blocking and applying black base, stripes and clear! SO so close now!!!!!!!!

Looks Great Mike!! I bet you can't wait til early next week or the week after and it's been cleared and ready to put back on the chassis.
Quick question though. Is the black a primer, sealer or a base color? Curious as you mentioned it was blocking it.
Keep the pictures coming!!
Cheers,
Looks great Michael!!! I like your choice of colors. I can't wait to see more of it.
Mike
Thanks guys.
Ryan,
it is actually a single stage black he referred to as Krill(sp?). He put a gallon of the high build primer on it before blocking the first time. Tonight he put 3 coats of single stage black to show all the imperfections before blocking it again. It's a high quality single stage black that he decided to use to make sure everything is perfect. He also said it will give the basecoat of black more depth of color when he is done. He will reassemble the car this week, mask off the stripes(silver), disassemble the car, spray the stripes, clear it and have it ready for me next week!!!! WOOHOO!!! He is supposed to have my sample stripe colors ready tomorrow for final selection. The suspense is killin me. I was ready to take it home tonight it looked so slick!
Looks beautiful!! Love the black. I'm planning (at least this week) on the same combination -black w/Arctic Silver (Porsche color) stripes.
Matt
Thanks. I was alittle nervous about black but when I saw it in the booth I was in awe of how good it looked. I am trying to find the right silver myself. I am looking at the superformance silver for my stripes probably. I have him spraying two other silvers also to compare. There are so many different shades it is killin me!!! :o
Michael
Wow that looks great and its not cleared yet? Wow again.
Bob
oK....after 3 months at the painter I brought her home for finish assembly. I take her back this week for final buffing and tweaking and then cleanup. Below is the latest progress so far. Hope to be DONE in about a week and I will post the final pics. THanks to everyone for their help!
Michael
Trunk finished.
Fresh air blowers installed.
Putting her back together!
Hood.
HOME FINALLY!
The last one for now. Interior was finished yesterday. Finish wiring today. FInal buffing this week.
Looks great Michael. Must be a great feeling.
It is! Never thought that there would be so much to do after bringing it home though! :-? I am really happy with everything though. I can't believe I am almost done!
Wow, that's really looking good Mike. Get it finished and we'll have to get the cars together when the weather improves :-)
Cheers,
looks great what are the paint colors more pics please!
Bobby
Definitely Ryan! Maybe we can meet at the cruise in at Newnan one weekend.
Bobby,
The black is a PPG base black that is a true black with no other colors mixed in. As black as black can be. I can get the number if you need. The stripes are 99 Lambo silver. The color used on Superformance cars. The stripes are the perfect color. THey have about 8 different colors mixed in to get the final product. He actually used a high dollar single stage black rather than a standard black base coat as the base coat. Put about 6 coats of it on. He said it would give it more depth than using standard base coat and I must agree cause I can stand 4 feet away and my shoes reflect like a mirror off the side. I will post the finished pics this coming weekend after the final buffing and cleanup this week.
Michael
Michael,
Can you please give me some info on your wheel and tire combination (size, back spacing, etc.)
Steve,
Hey Steve,
I used the Vintage Wheels on mine. I went with the standard size which I think is 15x8.5 rear and 15x7 front. Tires are 295/50 rear and 235/60 front. There is actually room for more on the outsides. I think the backspacing was 4.5 front and back. The guy at Vintage is great...he knows Hurricanes and I just used his recommendations.
