Build Pictures / HM2023 Build Thread
« on: July 03, 2018, 07:49:02 pm »
After 8 years of tinkering with my GenI Hurricane, I decided to jump into the deep end again. Most are aware my obsession with being period correct. Build II plans are to carry this even further.

Sit down, get an adult beverage and some popcorn and watch the fun begin

This build will again be an FE, this time i've sourced an aluminum Shelby block for my base, TrickFlow heads and Borla EightStack fuel injection. Performance Electronics ECU system. I'm runnong a very similar system in my current car and very pleased with its performance and reliability

The running gear will be a TKO600 with the Libertys Gear's upgrade and the new Hurricane '15 IRS. 15" pin drive wheels

Important Information / Hurricane Performance TV episode
« on: May 04, 2018, 03:55:16 pm »
Hurricane Motorsports, a legendary name in kit car production, will be featured in an upcoming episode of Velocity’s Performance TV. On a program airing Saturday, May 5, the automotive-focused show will spotlight Hurricane’s 427 Roadster and its unique features. The high-performance car brand, based in Lake City, Iowa, has grown in popularity since being acquired and re-launched by McLaughlin Family Companies in 2009.
Performance TV focuses on innovations within the automotive industry, showcasing new products and techniques for enhancing vehicles. A segment on this episode features a 2,600-pound Hurricane 427 Roadster with a 351 Windsor engine stroked to 427. John McLaughlin Jr. from McLaughlin Family Companies will be doing a walk-around of the 570-horsepower car with host Joe Castello, while Hurricane’s Project Line Manager Alec Daniel went on a ride-along.
The segment will also discuss how to order a Roadster, and the extensive features that come standard with Hurricane Motorsports’ kits.  After visiting with Velocity network representatives at this year’s Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show, Hurricane’s management was pleasantly surprised to hear back a few weeks later.
“We were excited to be approached by Performance TV to appear on their show,” said Daniel. “We’re proud of the quality, high performance and race-ready cars we produce, and are glad to have the chance to showcase them nationwide on television.”
The episode first airs on the Velocity network at 9:30 a.m. EST on May 5, subsequently showing on MAV TV June 1 (9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m EST) and Rev’n on May 22 (7:00 p.m EST), May 26 and May 27 (1:00 p.m. EST).

General Questions / Jay Nordstrom
« on: December 27, 2015, 12:13:25 pm »
I am sad to post info on the passing of Jay Nordstrom. Those who were around during the transition of Hurricane Motorsports from Lees Summit to Dallas to Lake City will know and remember Jay. He was instrumental in keeping Hurricane brand alive and helping it find a new home with Mike & Steve. Those who go back to the Lees Summit days will also know him as being one of the "reviewers" who offered design input on the origination of the vehicle.

Jay was very well known in the Cobra community and we Hurricane owners will always be in debt to him for all he did for the brand.

Rest in Peace, my friend

General Questions / Updated Site
« on: February 05, 2015, 11:10:43 pm »
I've updated my build site from to a new site

The tri-power carbs were cool but nothing beats a set of Webers. With their installation, I thought it was only appropriate to change the name and add new information.

I've just transitioned the old site over, now I need to add all the Weber stuff (and other mod's I made after I started driving the car)

Hope it helps the Hurricane owners community.

General Questions / London Show - 2012
« on: December 22, 2011, 08:13:49 pm »
It's been a number of years since we last got together.

Anyone interested in a Hurricane re-union at London this spring?

Maybe we could get Steve to spring for a beer? Maybe he could pull some strings to get everyone in one area or near the Hurricane booth?

Just throwing some thoughts out. Never too early to start planning

General Questions / More accolades
« on: March 07, 2012, 08:05:29 pm »
Mike and Hurricane received a few accolades today as his car was named as GearHead of the week

ps: don't know how many times I've driven past this location and never thought of it for a picture op! It is sooooo cool.

General Questions / Hurricane Podcast - part 2
« on: February 19, 2012, 09:09:32 pm »
A couple months ago, The MuscleCar Place did a podcast interview with Steve Sinnard of Hurricane Motorsports. If you haven't heard it - good listening and informative Here's the link

As a followup, I was contacted and did a similar interview as someone who has built a kit car. Kind of a fun thing - my shot at stardom. But I doubt they are saving a spot for me on Hollywood Blvd.

General Questions / Hurricane makes the Podcasts

Those who listen to Podcasts, Steve was recently interviewed by The MuscleCar Place, a weekly podcast about the same. This is a link to their webpage. You can listen to it there or you can download it from iTunes.

The shot he put in of my car is one of my favorites. That was a special day

General Questions / Hurricane recognition
« on: October 26, 2011, 07:33:10 pm »
A new Cobra book has been released, Shelby Cobra Fifty Years by Colin Comer

On page 241, John Shelton's car is pictured and Hurricane Motorsports acknowledged as one of the major players in the replica business.

A scan of the page is attached. Congratulations to all

ps: a plug for Colin, this is a really good book, great pictures and excellent text. You can find it on Amazon

General Questions / Power Steering Option
« on: August 19, 2006, 05:21:27 pm »
Speaking to another owner, I asked if he would do anything different. He said he was working on a project to add power steering to his car (strictly a cruiser, not a racer)

Can anyone tell me if this is do-able on a Hurricane kit? Can you identify the steering rack that is used and if a cross-over to power steering is available?
